D&D 5E (2024) Is 5E better because of Crawford and Perkins leaving?

Please provide a citation for this. 5E (2014 or 2024) to my knowledge does not say (as you did) anywhere that your actual "meat" hit points are only your constitution bonus or that they are some small other number. What it says is: "Hit points represent a combination of physical and mental...

D&D 5E (2024) Is 5E better because of Crawford and Perkins leaving?

If we are talking RAW laying down and letting someone stab you in the heart will not kill you. It is disingenous to bring up RAW to defend part of your hypothesis and then ignore RAW for another part of it. It is simply not possible RAW for a high level character with full hit points to be...

D&D 5E (2024) New Feats, avenues to diversity?

Putrefy is weak overall but has really good synergy with Summon Undead for bypassing legendary resistance. The best way to do this I think is with 2 levels of Fighter on a Blade Warlock of level 5+. Action Surge, attack with your pact weapon, deal necrotic damage, putrefy, then cast Summon...

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

Dwarves are far more popular than Halflings IME. In the past 10 years I have only seen 1 Halfling that was played by someone other than me. Even before 2024 boosted Dwarves, they were still among the most popular choices for Wizards due to the Armor proficiency.

D&D 5E (2024) Is 5E better because of Crawford and Perkins leaving?

To make this work a single stab from a dagger needs to be able to kill a 20th level PC and it needs to be able to kill them in a statistically significant fashion. If it can't kill you then there is no logical reason to fear it. IRL I am not terribly afraid of being stung by a yellow jacket...

D&D 5E (2024) Is 5E better because of Crawford and Perkins leaving?

Saying it is in need of repair, or coming up with your own houserules to enact such repairs is fundamentally different than suggesting it is "suicide" based on the rules that exist in the game as it is.

Dwarves are pretty durable, getting resistance to poison damage (the best resistance of any race) plus an extra 1hp per level. I would say they compete well with the Orc and Goliath as the most durable races in 2024.

D&D 5E (2024) Is 5E better because of Crawford and Perkins leaving?

Is it not a guarantee, there is a thing called Armor Class and an attack roll and if the guy used his reaction already then you can walk away and it is actually guaranteed that you won't get stabbed Not it isn't, unless you are level 3 or below a single hit from just about anything is unlikely...

The 2024 PHB Dwarf is pretty darn powerful with the rewrite of Stonecunning and their darkvision. They are probably the most powerful PHB species in the 2024 PHB and I have seen a huge uptick in them since the 2024 rules came out.

D&D 5E (2024) Is 5E better because of Crawford and Perkins leaving?

Well depending on what the caster is casting you might end up stabbing yourself. In realistic combat there is no such thing as a caster, good thing we are not talking about realistic combat. All combat in D&D is nonsense.

IME around 60% of players use PHB species, with half of those using Human and Dwarf alone since 2024 was published. In the games I am playing this week: Game 1: Aasimar, Elf, Human, Damphir, Dwarf, Human Game 2: Shifter, Goliath, Teifling, Gnome, Elf Game 3: Birdman of some sort, Tiefling...

If the other guy 30 feet away is a caster you do.

This might work in some tight focused groups but it is not going to work at most tables with a diverse group of players. While some players love planning out their backgrounds others want to show up session 1 and write a sentence or two on the sheet so they can start throwing dice.

I think the Theocrats or whatever they are called offer a challenge for players worshiping the new Gods and the Oath and Measure offer a gameplay element for Knights of Solamnia.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

Because you only get 2 attacks a round with a Longbow, vs 3-4 with hand crossbows and daggers and a feat. The so called "good" but really mediocre damage numbers that get thrown around for Hunter's Mark do not work with a Longbow. They are mediocre with light weapons nick and a feat to drive...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

It says it must be made with a different light weapon, not with a light weapon in the other hand and not with one that is being held at the same time. If you are holding a Shield for example in one hand and a short sword in the other, you attack with the short sword and then sheath it, then you...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

True, but a Dragon can't just choose to breathe in 1E, he needs to roll a 50 or below on a 1d100, and then he needs to target the Wizard.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

I agree to a point, they are easier to land but they were not really hail marys in AD&D. I think an Ancient Gold Dragon in AD&D saves on a 10 against a spell, an 8 if it is a polymproph spell. So cast it 3 turns in a row and you probably got him and if you do land it the fight is over...
