D&D General Why is the multi-classing spell slot math so weird?

The difference is in what level they are. Bob and Melissa or any multiclassed EK/Wizard with one Wizard level get a spell slot at level 7 and level 10 but not level 8 or 9. That said I do find the rules rather burdensome for no reason. It is in there to discourage multiclassing. It would be...

D&D 5E (2014) My players just drew from the Deck of Many Things - and Holy Crap!

In my 45 years of playing D&D "terrible, nasty effects" are the typical outcome from a deck of many things. I haven't seen an entire party imprisoned (I guess that was a TPK?), but the bad always outweigh the good both in seriousness and frequency IME. Right now I am playing a game where we...

D&D 5E (2014) A Time-Based Combat System for 5e (2014): Replacing Actions with Seconds and Making Movement Matter

I think the new movement rules will cause the opposite of the effect you want to achieve. I think a lot of martial melee players will do their thing then either shove or move an ally and pick a stance. I think battles will become more static, not more fluid.

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

How do they do this? Let's say they want to keep a tribe that lives in the Jungle area, is Xenophobic and eats people. How do they make that so people don't say it is based on a real world culture? They could make Halflings tall, then they would not share a shorter stature with the Pygmie...

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

I don't think it is on nearly the scope and scale it is now and TSR to my knowledge was not printing the 1E PHB, DMG and MM in German, French, Japanese etc. like WOTC is for the 5E material. I could be wrong about that. Further, half the population of Europe was behind the Iron curtain, so it...

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

D&D is much more of an international game than it was then, so I don't know that the U.S population is that relevant. 1E D&D had some traction in the UK and Canada, but it was not marketed and sold worldwide like 5E is. I think 5E written books are printed in 6 languages? I have heard there...

    D&D 5E (2014) Official WotC 5e pdfs

This was from before WOTC bought D&D Beyond, that is why it was put out as a pdf. At that time WOTC had no company-owned digital outlet for their product.

    D&D 5E (2024) Aasimar is a really strong species in 2024

Where it really paid off was with a pack of Shadows, activated Inner Radiance, putting them in bright light and giving them disadvantage, while taking half damage and doing Radiant damage they were vulnerable to (and she is a Bladelock, so she can swing her sword with Radiant). I've used the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Aasimar is a really strong species in 2024

We were level 5 when I posted that, level 7 now. It was pretty noticeable at level 3, being able to fly and just killing Zombies and Shadows at lower levels by really nerfing their strengths.

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

I might agree with this if you are talking about extreme numbers, but I think these things are pretty ubiquitous across all age groups. So might be true that 99% of young people are on social media, where "only" 95% of people in their 40s are but I don't think the difference is significant for...

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

Most of those do not take a very long time. We did SODQ in I think 6 weeks end-to-end, VOER might have been less then that. Most of them are probably about 8 weeks. The ones that go all the way to level 20 take longer and usually if they don't go to level 20 we tack on extra content at the...

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

We have played multiple 3rd party campaigns too: Moonshae Adventures, Call of the Deep, Call From the Deep, Dungeons of Drakenheim, Lairs of Etharis and Rise of the Drow. We play old 1E adventures too redone for 5E, currently one group is playing a game based on the gold box video games...

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

We have already played all of them except Strahd (and have no interest in that one). We were looking for more of an epic campaign type adventure.

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

This is probably true, although I will say that most groups I play with generally seem to enjoy "railroads" more than "sandboxes". Many of the players say they don't like railroads, but then seem to lose interest in adventures when there is not an obvious thing to do next or get angry when they...

I loved it. Played it and then DMed it twice.

D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

It has been a while since we have had a campaign. I think almost 2 years since Vecna, and that one started at level 10 and was relatively short. We have had a ton of new rules books in that time. When are they going to get back to epic adventures like Tomb of Annihilation or Princes of the...

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

I don't understand why Halflings eating people are fundamentally any worse than Vampires eating people and D&D has clearly embraced the latter recently: I get how both of these could be argued to be adult themes, but I don't see how one is good and the other is bad.

D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

The last Darksun campaign I played in my PC (Halfling) and another PC (Thri-keen) spent most of the campaign debating in character whether elves or humans tasted better. The thri-keen preferred Elves, I preferred humans, but neither of us were picky. We were both willing to eat whomever we...
