    D&D 5E (2024) Why aren't Angels concidered a type of Empryeans?

The word was removed because of the old satanic panic - being sued or physically attacked was a danger the writers of the time were understandably worried about. That's not respect, that's fear. There's no reason for D&D to avoid the word angel. Certainly, MtG isn't suddenly avoiding printing...

    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock idea fishing

So. I'm going to be doing an 2024 infernal tiefling fiendlock with blade pact. My goal, however, is to go all in on fire and ice magics, starting with green flame blade. I like cantrip casting as a warlock, not attacking like a fighter, so doing a bit of tweaking. I plan on focusing on...

D&D General 50 Years. The Least Popular Class Is......

Nah. Spoony bards sucking was a meme in 3e too, though some not terrible bard prcs were really fun too. But I'm saying that the 4e bard was gold, and the 5e bard rocks. That's 33% of dnd's lifespan with a good illusionst style class. Which is probably better than the monk's record. I hear...

D&D General 50 Years. The Least Popular Class Is......

For The most part, Illusionist has been swallowed by the modern bard, who is rather quite popular right now. So. Ymmv.

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

When it comes to computer programs, there's an interesting quirk. By convention, all odd numbered versions (ie something like OS 1.024) are the glitchy versions with all the cool new features that might or might not work right. The even numbered version (ie OS 2.011) is the polished version...

    D&D 5E (2014) Advanced D&D or "what to minimally fix in 5E?"

What things are weak? Exploration rules, crafting, skills in general, social encounters to start with. Better CR for monsters. I think BG3 had the right of it to cap the game at 12. So I kinda want to expand the game based on that.

D&D 5E (2014) Help Me Name This New Cantrip

Uhhh... honestly, its a pretty powerful one imho. Getting back a battle-changing spell slot in a pinch is usually pretty strong, especially if its right before a boss fight. Anyways! I'd go with Life to Mana or maybe Blood to Mana. Given Wee Jas' slight necromancy bend, coupled with the...

D&D 5E (2014) Which classes have the least identity?

Ehhh... yes and no. Like, its a d10 roll added on but takes a Second Wind use, so they're better than a Rogue with Expertise when it comes to a single roll, but they do have limited uses unlike a passive expertise. So, they're great for pinch hitting, but I wouldn't put them down for being a...

D&D 5E (2014) Which classes have the least identity?

Nitpick - 1dnd Fighteer has the power to add to their skill rolls now. So that's no longer 100% true.

    D&D General What are humans?

What are humans? Nothing more than a miserable pile of secrets! -- Strahd? To put it simply, we are humans, and humans are us. Whereas every other species reflects some other aspect of the human condition writ large (fantasy is filled with metaphors), humanity is just... us. The human...

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

What I want to see happen - * wizard spell list trimmed down, with a number of spells going to other casters. The wizard can then pick some back up with subclass spell lists. This will help make different wizard subclasses feel different from each other. * an official way to have paladin...

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

peeks in Hrm. Lets recap the Psion debate. "We want a Psion class" (translation: we want new mechanics that aren't martial or spellcasting, and using "psionics" as the traditional word to represent this third option) "But we already have psions." (translation: we have multiple classes that...

    D&D General Universal Subclasses

Tricky tricky. Do you assume that martials won't need Extra Attack, but casters will as part of the progression? I'd need to see more, since the default assumptions between caster and martial would potentially make contradictory abilities.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

I'm basing this off the gw2 mmo, where there were lots of choices, specializations, support abilities, and each weapon brought a suite of 5 different abilities per weapon. well, that's not how I've seen any game do things, not even dnd, so gonna disagree with ya.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

I mean... it depends on the design goals. There's a lot that depends on the overall system and stories the game is intending on telling. Personally, I'm happy with a system of 9 - Fighter, Paladin/Cleric merge, Barbarian/Warlock (!!) merge, Rogue, Artificer, Ranger/Druid merge, Bard/Psychic...

Meh. At best, this is a complaint about using gluten free flour instead of whole wheat flour. We still have the cake.

D&D 5E (2014) Which classes have the least identity?

"Class fantasy" is the most commonly used phrase for thematic identity, I found. Mechanical identity seems to be "fighting style" with a bit of exploration and social skill use mixed in. The problem with fighting style is that's a mechanic too, so it doesn't quite work.
