I've been playing on and off since 1988....we've never held a game together longer than maybe 9th level. Scheduling is usually the enemy. That and when the last original PC dies, we usually call it quits. Game your own game my friends.

That's an interesting premise.

I would ask the player what it is that they are hiding from and how they are hiding.

Isn't the question why would you roll to attack a door if there is no tension or time constraint?

Would you make a PC roll for chopping firewood?

I just don't find hiding or stealth or being sneaky as valuable as everyone else does. Maybe I'm just D&Ding wrong. :unsure:

My favorite edition is the edition that everyone agrees to play at any given moment. 🥳 I guess that makes my second favorite all of the other ones.

I think you leave a lot on the table when you don't use a map. Or off the table as it were. When you use a lay out and terrain etc. a player may get the spark of an idea on how to better handle the situation. If there is no map or layout....how do i know what i might not be seeing? Back in the...

The fact that every PC is different and every DM is different makes this the opposite of a truism. I always advocate for everyone to play the game the way they like. Your opinion is different than mine and I'm ok.

It's truly a game of compromises. Trust the DM and ignore the players. :giggle:

Since I am the referee most of the time and there is no trophy or sponsorship contracts at the end of the rainbow; I go with logic and reason. In fact...a player declares their intent to hide...i look at the map and say....ok, you're pretty sure you are hidden. Before these meandering diatribes...

You win, everyone else must be wrong. Do i have to sign a release or a certificate that allow you to have won the conversation. Were just trying to explain the how and whys of things and you just keep asking for more. I think there is a term for that.
