D&D General Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

no it is not, never was, it is a stupid algorithm that compares what you typed against a list of words it ‘knows’ and maybe knows some basic grammar rules. They existed long before AI and do not work in the same way as AI at all.

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

who set up the license has nothing to do with whether it can be revoked, that is a matter of the terms and conditions. Neither CC nor the OGL can be revoked yes, because no one would trust them any more with the OGL or a new version of it. If WotC erroneously challenged it again, you would have...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

yeah, and back when the OGL was written it meant both of those things because something cannot be perpetual if it can be revoked. In an abundance of caution in the years following the OGL it became practice to include both words however. You have that and the stated intent of WotC and the people...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

so what would you have done, continue to use it and wait for WotC to sue you and then find out in court once that happens? That could be pretty costly even when you end up winning in the end

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

a new OGL would not be any stronger than the old one, and we saw what happened to that when WotC decided to not play nice, so no, an updated OGL would be useless and no one would trust it, using the CC instead is a huge improvement

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

none of this is whataboutism… not sure how that relates to whataboutism. As to explaining it, I would not say ‘explain the success’ but ‘contribute to it’… PF2 sold out a year’s worth of products in a month, as did other RPGs. They all got a boost from people looking for alternatives to D&D...

D&D General Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

I do not consider your example an ‘edited with’, to me that implies that there was a preexisting text that was slightly tweaked. If these are the two options then it will have to be ‘created by’. I agree that this does not match perfectly either, so ideally we should have more than these two...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

possibly, getting a cut of the revenue is a problem when your profit margin is slim. There were certainly some that said that this would be a problem for those 3pps / KS that got big enough to fall under that clause. This obviously only affects games / products that use the OGL, so Draw Steel...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

I am not sure what you see as whataboutism here. No one said ‘yeah WotC bungled that OGL thing, but look at how badly X handled their license’

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

no, it rests on the idea that anyone can continue creating 5e compatible material even if WotC has moved on to an incompatible 6e, much like the OSR does today for an older version of D&D. Whether anyone will and how popular it will be remains to be seen, but the opportunity will exist indefinitely

D&D General Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

and I called that a sensible use of AI and something that they should call created with the help of AI rather than calling it AI generated As you asked then the answer still remains that it was written with AI, not purely AI generated, but written with its help. Would you claim that AI was not...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

they are not going to throw their then and current leaders under the bus over this and it is hard to reorganize your CEO out of the company.., no, the current version already does not allow it and they tried some lame lawyery excuse for why what they were doing was not what the license...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

well, they did, so at that point the best they could do is release an SRD under CC, because no one would trust them with the OGL again wanting them to never have done it is fine, but that is not really something they can undo. As to proof that they have learned, what would that proof look like...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

Kobold Press only has one line, ToV. If you are talking about adventures, they are similar enough that there is not much difference, i.e. you need two sets of monster stat blocks and subclasses but that is about it - and that other 'line' is not really yours, it is WotC's, and when you are...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

I backed some more projects since, the PHB2, Northlands, and now the Gothic KS, all for ToV. The reason is simple, I prefer it over the 2024 D&D. If you do not, then don't bother, sure, but for me it is the exact opposite, why bother with 2024... that is a risk with all the 5e-likes I guess...

We All Won – The OGL Three Years Later

If they make a profit from it that is comparable to the one they would have made from another product, then there is no harm. ToV seems to be selling well enough, Kobold Press keeps creating new material for it.

D&D General Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

yes, there is a continuum, but chances are you stay quite a bit away from the middle in most cases. Either the AI does most of the work & writing, or you do. Still fully on the AI side and not really all that far away from 1) unless you take the ideas (i.e. at most a paragraph rather than 80%...

D&D General Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

So what, the prompt has nothing to do with the output, which is not your own text. As I said, you can argue that it would put your own spin on it, much like you said you can do on the output, but in either case you had little to do with the result, so I consider either approach to be AI...
