OSR Why does OSR Design Draw You In?

Its just unintuitive. It makes more sense for most people to add an attack bonus to an attack roll than the targets AC. There is a reason most player and DM prefer the the new version if they didn't grew up with Thac0.

    Shadowdark: Stocking A Dungeon Example

I completely agree - I love stocking dungeons with random procedures and than find a scenario/narrative based on the random outcomes. Its fun and its relatively quick. I very much liked how you just roll for monster pages instead of an encounter table. (and landed on all these greek mythology...

OSR Why does OSR Design Draw You In?

I think this summarize perfectly what I enjoy about OSR. Its more player-driven, actual roleplaying instead of finding the right skill or rule. I also really enjoy the community and very diverse collection of adventures, rules, hacks etc.

Things you don’t like about DMing

I think its absurd to ask "why are you even GMing" if you have some aspects that feel like work or not enjoying that much. I yet have to encounter any hobby / freetime activity where I love every aspect. Its more rational to try and minimize the stuff you don't like and focus on what you enjoy...

    Your most pointless TV/movie/book nitpicks

I see you havent met my parents. Jokes aside, in times of wireless tools everywhere a lot of people are not using their pc-ports at all anymore. I don't think its too far fetched that anyone would be surprised there pc is missing a port, because they never used it before.

    D&D 5E (2024) Infiltration with a familliar

Thats a bit extreme plus you make it sound as if TTRPG are less interactive than video games. TTRPG players want interaction and they want interaction as a party. Otherwise they would play solo games or watch a movie. Most players I know, myself included, don't want to watch a full infiltration...

D&D General Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

Really depends. Some people are way slower in writing and creating phrases and much faster in analyzing a text and correcting it. Two different modes of thinking.

tbf I have nothing against automating away annoying busy work.

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

I was talking about games and decision points. A story can be linear without the game being a railroad (mass effect). Meanwhile a game like last of us is a railroad because the story plays out the same. Railroad is a gaming term because its not about the story in isolation, its about story in...

What are you reading in 2026?

Yes I liked that aspect, how evil slowly enters a community, corrupting it. Works as a metaphor on many levels and the novel is not subtle about it. But I was more speaking about the dramatic pacing. Some of the scares and action in the beginning of the movie felt like entering a final phase -...

What is "railroading" to you (as a player)?

As a player: When I feel that my decisions doesn't matter. Compare with videogames: Linear game where you are NOT railroaded: Mass Effect Linear game where you are railroaded: Last of Us

What are you reading in 2026?

I am also reading it right now (thx to @Whizbang Dustyboots ) and this part got my blood boiling. The unfairness and helplesness felt real. I am right before the finale starts I think (Patricia just left... the attic), and I hope some of these husbands meet their end. I am definitely emotionally...

    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

True, if they just need a final financial burst for the last stretch it might be much more secure. But other scenarios... Even if they plan to get other investors too after the initial KS boost, its too risky. It happens so easily in IT projects to have exploding costs that surpass the estimate...

    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Speaking as a Software Developer: I would never back a software project. These are just too complex. I much prefer to donate (or even participate) in already existing open source projects.

Cosmere picked up by Apple TV

Yes, totally me projecting after interpreting your own conclusion to the question you asked yourself: Stuff likes this robs me completey of any desire to read the rest of your points and participate in a discussion with you, so I don't.

Cosmere picked up by Apple TV

I share a lot of your criticsm, but I think your projecting your own criticsm as it is general accepted fact and thus apple is doing a bad business decision. But what Apple sees is the current most popular epic fantasy author and the thousands of Sanderson fans who clearly don't share your...

Keeping Track of Time (In Game)

Yes, good addition. With time tracking its always easy to let consequence follow to failures.

What are you reading in 2026?

I feel when the movie is more popular as the book its always a sign of that happening. Like when people don't even know its based on a book - the movie probably is better. Not a guarantee, but often it is like that. Another example that comes to mind is "Fight Club". I did enjoy the movie much...

Spoilers A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Not up do date with third episode, just wanted to chime in that I enjoyed the second episode much more and start to be invested in the characters and Duncans participation in the tournament. I really enjoy the low stakes.

What are you reading in 2026?

Its insane how much better I feel since I strictly limit the addictive social media and my news consumption and other information flooders. Our brains are not made for this overwhelming amounts of incoming information. Australia did the right thing with banning social media for children.
