Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

No, I'm not missing his point. I don't know how to communicate more clearly that I understood his point (which isn't even a complicated enough one that it would be reasonable to accuse someone of not getting) or that what I'm taking away is not what he intended to say, considering I explicitly...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Like I said, I understand it's a personal exploration of his feelings, so the things that are off putting to me aren't intended. I don't even disagree with most of what he says here. It's just, for me, very difficult to separate the fact that his core struggle with AI is that it denies people...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I am a pretty anti AI art person, so I'm primed to agree with him, but my overall reaction to this speech is negative. I recognize this was mostly about his personal introspection, and not a fleshed out argument, but there's something about the way he invokes John Henry here, and how be...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

This has always been my issue with it. It's fine to define a word a certain way in an academic framework but trying to remove that framework and force it into the real world, especially when that word is already being used colloquially, is usually not going to work.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Just thinking things and moving on from them is, imo, a great skill that people my age and younger were disinclined to learn growing up with social media. I am...I won't say I'm doing a lot better as I've rediscovered the ability but it has made a noticeable difference in my moods.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I would bet quite a lot of money that the author of this little comic from the 80s wasn't thinking about old english while writing it.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Ah, no, the author was just very inconsistent with the were prefix. He was a vampire who was bitten by a "were-woman" (who was already a woman outside of the moon light), who turns into a bat/wolf thing in the full moon.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Coincidentally, I just read a (not very good) comic about this.

    Draw Steel General Thread [+]

My players have now basically resolved all the side quests in Act 2 of the Delian Tomb, and have had a third character die. I'm pretty sure the fact that I was having to run one player's character is the only reason there wasn't a TPK, keeping track of the Tactician's stuff was enough...

Every time I post outside of this topic I regret it.

Spoilers A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

It's sort of like the scene from the first episode to me, in that it isn't offensive so much as dumb and unnecessary.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've seen too many of my friends' posts on social media to believe the comforting lie that anyone behaving ridiculously is a bot.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This particular incident sticks out in my mind mostly because the person who was arguing that burden of proof was outdated....had earlier actually linked to something that had evidence of their claim. But because they hadn't actually read it, they didn't know that. And in this entire (very...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've actually seen people argue that burden of proof is an outdated concept and that if you say someone isn't providing any evidence, it's on you to prove that they're not.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

"I'm good at multitasking" just means "I care less about doing multiple things badly" IME. Unrelated to the above: I really wish people would read articles before they make judgements about the contents of the article.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This seems like one of those times a lot of the differences in opinion come down to the fact that people don't all define role play the same way. I have a friend who would insist he's good at both, and several people who have played with him would agree, because he'll come up with a voice for...

Sometimes I think I miss snow, but then people who have to deal with it post pictures and I change my mind.

    Today I learned +

I know myself well enough to know how easily I could be baited into eating them so I make sure to never put myself into a situation where that might happen. Because....just

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I think that's just a phase a lot of internet citizens go through, if you dig around on old forums you can find people doing it long before 2010 and in the right spaces you can still find them doing it. DnD forums used to be maybe the worst, because they weren't content to use the ones you'd...
