Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Great video from Brandon Sanderson on “AI” art.

I am a pretty anti AI art person, so I'm primed to agree with him, but my overall reaction to this speech is negative. I recognize this was mostly about his personal introspection, and not a fleshed out argument, but there's something about the way he invokes John Henry here, and how be acknowledges the tangible ways this will impact people but very quickly moves past it that I'm not comfortable with.

The other day I heard a podcast about how most CEOs don't have a clear strategy for AI deployment so that it is effective. They need the workers to invent it. The same workers whose best interest is on it not having a real impact and just dying out.
Yeah. The best use of “AI” would be in replacing CEOs.

I didn't take is as a thorough or in-depth take down of “AI” generally, but rather specifically about “AI” and art. Especially given the middle section on even if X were fixed, I'd still have a problem with “AI” art. The point is still worth taking to heart. We don't make art for the product, we make art because the process of doing so improves and enriches us as people.

So now that I'm 'in it' and have to use it, I'm not so sure. Its the people who are just scheduling meetings, taking notes, or filtering that information upward.

Project Managers, and Middle Managers.

The people at the top? They use the AI to get the information they need, and those PM's and Managers? Toast.
