that to me is the one really good piece of art from that book. It is the same book I posted the art from!

Somehow I missed your reply until now! Thank you for taking the time to respond. I don't agree with your desire, but I understand your frustration. For me, the art direction of most of 2e and into 3e bothered me enough that I mostly lost interest in the game. 1e and 5e are the height of D&D art...

Most of the art in the 2e PHB is black and white (or blue and white). Or are you taking about the later release with different art. I am talking about the original 2e PHB with stuff like this:

IDK, I just looked through it again and there are a few good works (most if not all the good ones are recycled art I think) but man the overall art and graphic design I find incredibly uninspiring.

Oh, is that Jim Halloway art?! I also loved his stuff. He was the best add in the 1e MM2 art.

I was clearly wrong, but are you sure that 2e one is from the PHB? IIRC, they did change the art in the 2e PHB at one point so maybe that is in the one I don't have.

I would say iconic to some people's D&D - definitely not ours! I also don't recall ever seeing druids depicted with a scimitar in D&D art (but could have easily missed that). Thank you for the clarification!

Wait, how are scimitars iconic for druids? I have never in my life pictured a druid with a scimitar. I am trying right now and I can't do it!

I guess I disagree with that statement, it is not all heroic. Is it mostly heroic, probably, but I wouldn't say all of it. Now, I will say I too miss the more grounded style (3e and 4e art were the worse offenders of the crazy heroic style IMO) to some extent, but I really appreciate variety...

I see this a lot. What I don't understand is that D&D has always had art that didn't match the medieval theme and had shiny happy people. Also, their is still art that is dark, grim, and medieval in 5e & 5e24 art. So my question to you: how much of one or the other is to much for you?

OK @Parmandur these are fighting words! BECMI and Deities & Demigods are the best of D&D! Even putting them in the same sentence as a "mistake" is a horrendous miscarriage of justice! This take has seriously tainted my opinion of you past and present! :p

WotC D&D Beyond Reveals 'Partnered Content' Schedule

They did talk about that being a grand goal/dream but, if I remember correctly, in the same breath they admitted they did not know how to do that just yet. Basically saying it will be a curated thing for some time moving forward.

D&D General [+] For (hypothetical) 6e: Which arcane caster class should be the "simple" one?

If it was up to me, the arcane casters would always be complex and the spiritual casters would be simple. So, if you want to play a simple caster you play a spiritualist. To clarify, arcane and spiritual are not different types of magic, just different ways for mortals to access magic...

Doesn't the Forge of Foes (or whatever it was called) have rules for 5e minions? Maybe @SlyFlourish can give their thoughts

D&D General The Monsters Know What They're Doing ... Are Unsure on 5e24

I'm fine with KB. He has a lot of great ideas. However, they have little to no impact on how I would run Eberron if I ever did. I think setting authority / canon is of little value and, from my perspective, anti-D&D. I only skip over it because I play with people I already trust. I can only...

So yes, an appeal to authority. Maybe it is the homebrewer in me, but appeals to the authority are as far removed from the spirit of D&D as any appeal can be to me. D&D is all about the game we make at the table and together with friends IMO.

I disagree, but fair enough I am not sure how to respond. I find the use of obedience very odd. I don't expect obedience from my players, such a thought has never entered my mind. To the issue of trust. I have seen many DMs, including myself, emphasis the importance of trust in a gaming...
