Poll: VTT Users - Do you prefer self-hosted or cloud-based VTTs?

Owlbear Rodeo has everything I need and I don't care about self-hosting. I encourage all my players to use paper character sheets (which they do) and I even let them roll their own dice (b/c i don't play with people I don't trust). Also, in my experience, the more bells and whistles a VTT has...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Is Now OFFICIALLY Called "5.5e"

Given all that has happened in my life and in the world since then, 2024 already seems like a decade ago sometimes, so yeah, what Charlaquin said. Plus, not sure why it matters or anyone cares, but since while I would grab rules from it, I am not planning on playing it as a complete ruleset, my...

    D&D 3.x I miss 3.5 edition

I played 3.xE for 16+ years from when it first came out (2000 to 2016). I was not into all the 3.5 changes, so I just added what I liked from 3.5 but kept along with the 3.0 chassis (with the caveat that I house rule every version of D&D I play from Day One and never look back). I never even...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I have never played Warhammer, but have considered getting back into Necromunda, which I loved back in the day and was surprised to find out still gets regularly played at the local hobby shop.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I kinda feel the opposite, wherein the more I flip back and forth the more I think that most of these folk would probably be more amenable to compromise in real life (where getting along has more social cachet) as opposed to “saving face” on the internet.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I’ve got two pairs of those guys + various other frog and toad people. Always been a fave.

D&D 5E (2024) How do you handle surprised but won initiative?

I went in the other direction and in my games attacks against surprised creatures are made with Advantage (though only for the first round). (And in my experience while some characters might get two rounds of actions before the surprised get to act, generally most don’t).

    D&D 5E (2024) Steel & Skill: The Complete Fighter's Field Guide

It is easy enough to steal things from 2024 rules for 2014 or other rules hack versions, so heck yeah, I want to see this!

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I’d watch that and love it.

I have strict purchasing limitations I hold myself to.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I’m down to my last unpainted mini (started it yesterday) so I just ordered $120 bucks of minis off Etsy (looking to boost my collection of elementals and related creatures for my Primordial Evil campaign (reimagining ToEE to actually be about elemental evil).

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Just reiterating that I can’t stand any RPG business thread, including con/expo announcements, not because the news isn’t necessarily interesting but because of every single discussion that follows.

D&D 5E (2014) Length of Combat & Time Taken per Round (collecting data from my games - updated 3/13 with an hour 30 minute 11 round battle!)

I guess I have always been interested in this kind of data, because while rereading one of my story hours, I stumbled upon a link to this thread, which looks at combat length (by round) in my then 3.xE game back in 2008.

A question for people with a local MLB team

WWOR is where/how I watched games growing up.

A question for people with a local MLB team

In NYC you need to have SNY (a cable channel that comes with most packages) to see most Mets games (about 1 a week is on local broadcast tv WPIX) and YES to see Yankees games. Similarly, here in Pittsburgh to see the Pirates you need access to to the Root. I paid for MLB.tv to watch Mets games...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Having used some of those products for my kid and finding it a good brand, I was skeptical about objections until I saw the actual marketing language and yeah. . . EW. I think someone was trying to take advantage of the goofiness and absurdity that comes being the parent of an infant...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I am in the planning stages of a total re-do of my basement game room (including tearing down two crappy non-load bearing walls in order to put up ones that can actually hold the weight of shelves and allow for maps and art to be hung). but logistics on these projects is always a bear. For...

D&D General Favourite adventures from Dungeon Magazine

I totally dropped that part when I ran it (was just reading the part of the story hour that covered how I adapted it for my use). It is funny that I get so used to running these adventures as I have revised them long ago, that I forget what is original to it and what is what I made up - and had...
