Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

That doesn't mean 5E plays or even feels anything like TSR D&D. (Actually, I personally think it feels like the height of 2E, but that's a different thing.)

I thought you were talking about "OSR 5E" rules. Sure. Folks would buy Castle Greyhawk.

Let's Talk About Defining Player Characters

it will take a little rework of what classes atually ARE in SD, but that's okay. I have often considered trying to break all the 5E class and subclass abilties into talent trees to make that game classless (but with levels still) and I decided ultimately that the juice probably isn't worth the...

    Your Top 5 Superhero Outfits

I kind of like the idea of a supers universe where they all operate nude because costumes are just going to get obliterated anyway.

As an aside, my next project is going to be to try and create a "career tree" system for Shadowdark somewhat inspired by the old WHFRP one. Your level 1 is a scrub, levels 2-4 is somewhat better, levels 5-7 a real pro and levels 8-10 the pinnacle of the line. All using prereqs and stuff so there...

Let's Talk About Defining Player Characters

In general, I don't mind "classes" (archetypes, whatever) especially if there is some room to customise. I am not a huge fan of the way 5E does it because you have essentially made your last choice by 3rd level, but systems that offer continued choices within classes are okay. I also like point...

Again, it wasn't a serious suggestion. It was a comment on how ill suited 5E is to the theoretical playstyle in question.

I was specifically responding to the idea that they are going to somehow magically be able to give 5E an old school difficulty feel. Doing so would be to turn it into Shadowdark. But your disdain is noted.

No they are not. There is no world in which that happens.

It matters to them apparently. or, at least, the perception of them mending it matters to them.

Let's Talk About Defining Player Characters

[NOTE: this is another thread in my ongoing series to explore and discuss various aspects of TTRPGs as I work toward a foundation for my own RPG. Thanks for participating. Even if we disagree it will be helpful.] There are lots of ways to define PCs in TTRPGs, from classes and levels to skill...

I mean, I don't care one way or another. I just think if the press release talks about healing a rift, it must exist in some capacity between Gygax and WotC/Hasbro. As to Greyhawk: I don't get it. I never have, not even 40 years ago.

Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Cover by Jeff Easley Revealed at Gary Con

If the rift is only between TSR and EGG, there is nothing to "heal" because they are both gone forever. If there is a rift remaining, it must be between the Gygax estate and the owners of D&D and/or Greyhawk (WotC). Right?

Sunday Nonsense: Which TTRPG Systems Survive

To.each their own. 5E, for all its accessibility, is to me a devolution of 3.x. They threw too much baby out with the bathwater, especially in terms of DM support.
