Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

Personal preference. When I have an idea that the game's official spells don't cover, I prefer to invent a new one rather than change the existing one. :) The question back in my first post on the subject suggested just that, actually, and it seems that people here mostly agree that the basic...

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

Folklore about real-life speaking in tongues, yes. I don't think the spell is a misnomer, just that that extra application seems to have been lost in translation. And it could be cool to put it back. If the basic Tongues spell doesn't do it, then neither will the group version, since its rules...

    Variant Wizard Spellbook

Not to threadjack, but the name of the tactic is actually a bit of a misnomer. Most who talk about it refer to using Scrying followed by Teleport, but in fact the two spells mentioned are too restrictive to really allow its use as a tactic. Scrying takes a full hour to cast, and has an expensive...

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

You misunderstood what I was saying, I think. Let me try it a different way. Character under the effect of Tongues is called "Speaker." Speaker says something to a group of four people, call them "Listener A, Listener B, Listener C," and "Listener D." Listener A is from Rome, and is a native...

Does the Tongues Spell Allow You to Read?

For the record, my groups have always played it the way tylermalan suggested it should be in the original post- our logic was that since it's a higher-level effect, it should be able to incorporate the lower-level "reading" effect too. It is true, though, that the RAW alone does not necessarily...

The True Necromancer (A Wizard Archtype for minion-lovers.)

Without having had time to fully consider the changes you make here, a quick once-over of your archetype gets a "kudos" from me! You fix the biggest issues Wizards have for being Necromancers, which is to say that Animate Dead is a higher-level spell for them than it is for Divine casters, and...

Can a Necromancy specalist wizard be a good minion-master?

One could potentially do something based on the Summoner's Eidolon. Make a cool customizable "undead general" companion that way. Or, maybe a Summoner alternate class that's based on Necromancy instead of Conjuration, and has an Undead Companion instead of the Eidolon?

How to Handle a Druid's Animal Companion

Oh, okay. So you'd have no problem with a sword-wielding gorilla, or chimp, or orangutan, then (none of those have tails). Cool.

How to Handle a Druid's Animal Companion

What's wrong with sword-wielding monkeys? That's what every human sword-wielder is, after all. ;)

    Variant Wizard Spellbook

To me, this seems like a solution in search of a problem. Wizards are versatile: that's the primary focus and strength of the class, and that alone is why Character Optimization (CharOp) people always look at them to be sure of what they're doing: the Wizard can do just about anything, if he...

A mad experiment - wizard -> scientist conversion for sci-fi

I had hoped so, but sometimes publishers forget what they put out for sale. ;) Anyway, you know, then, that it's pretty close to what you appear to be trying to do here, though for this thread you're clearly trying to change the "skin" of the whole thing to sci-fi rather than fantasy. But...

A mad experiment - wizard -> scientist conversion for sci-fi

It's somewhat peripheral to what you appear to be attempting, but were you aware of The Fantastic Science: A Technologist Sourcebook? It's for old 3.X d20, but I have a copy and the class presented in the book is very much like what you say you're looking to do.

Chaotic Monks - how to get them?

Start as Monk, then switch alignments. You won't be able to gain any more Monk levels, but you still have what you'd gained prior to the switch.

Pathfinder 1E Is there any Pathfinder sci-fi/future stuff out there?

That's the best one, yeah. There's also a project to convert the Dragonstar setting to PF, but I haven't followed it very closely so I don't know how far along they are (or whether it's even still going, for that matter).

Pathfinder 1E 1st time to Pathfinder, Class choice?

Sticky Poison rocks for an Alchemist focused on poison. As long as your INT is 20 or higher, you'll be effectively paying 20% normal price for each dose you use on a weapon. Whether you take that, or Wings, comes down to whether you want cheaper poison or mobility when getting into combat...

Is there a better way to handle Exotic Weapon Proficiency?

It's worth noting, for this conversation, that Paizo already did this to some extent with Ultimate Combat. The Firearms are Exotic weapons, in base rules, but you only spend one Exotic Weapon feat to get them all- you just take Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Firearms) and you can use that Pistol...

    Race Creation Help

Don't try to build by CR. CR is for monsters, not PCs. Level Adjustment never did equate to it (that was one of the common criticisms of the LA mechanic in fact), and Paizo isn't trying to do it here either.

Pathfinder 1E 1st time to Pathfinder, Class choice?

Don't bother with Rogue for the Alchemist- do Vivisectionist Archetype for Alchemist and stick with Alchemist all the way. Vivisectionist gives up Bombs for Sneak Attack, and gets a few Rogue abilities as Discoveries like Evasion.

    Race Creation Help

I don't know about consensus, but it's what the playtest doc suggests. Look at the "Challenging Advanced and Monstrous Races" sidebar table on page 3- Paizo actually made explicit what was sort-of-but-not-really handled in 3.X with LA. The fact of the matter is, level adjustments to balance out...

    Race Creation Help

Golden's Guide is skewed towards low power, and is far too conservative in its projections of what actual bonuses mean in a real game. Don't use it unless you plan to tweak it heavily. The Advanced Races Guide isn't out yet, but its playtest is; you can download it at Paizo's website (sorry, I...
