Level Up Gateway Level Up Gateway May Dev Update

Hey, just tried multiclassing Herald/Fighter and everything tracks properly except: Maneuver Traditions - it didn't go past 2nd degree. A Herald7/Fighter3 should access to 3rd degree as if they were a 10th level fighter. Or, has this changed?

Level Up (A5E) Warlock Archetype Curse scaling & Herald multiclassing

It's all within A5e (AG only) so Hexblade is out (that class is just way too front loaded). Fighter is a strong pick but I wanted to discuss the merits of Warlock (Spellbinder) and whether there was a better option (other than fighter1). Rushing Herald 6th makes sense. Divine Smites are...

Level Up (A5E) Warlock Archetype Curse scaling & Herald multiclassing

Thank you. Great input. I was thinking about it in terms of a single dip for a Herald. A TWF Herald would make the best use of it especially one that that is using the Spellbinder's Curse and Protection-from-Good-and-Evil spell. This combination seems really solid for a short rest feature...

Level Up (A5E) Warlock Archetype Curse scaling & Herald multiclassing

While on topic, sort of, I was comparing the curse damage feature to Divine Favor. It seems quite strong in that it provides 1 minute, concentration free, Divine Favor, albeit for one target, with some extras and rechargeable on a short rest.

Level Up (A5E) Warlock Archetype Curse scaling & Herald multiclassing

Perfect. Thanks I'm trying to think of such wording in the AG and the only thing I can think of are features that scale with proficiency. Do cantrips work in the same way? ie., scale off the class which took the cantrip?

Level Up (A5E) Warlock Archetype Curse scaling & Herald multiclassing

Do the Warlock curses (Alien Curse; Diabolical Curse; and Spellbinder’s Curse) scale with Warlock level or character level? It says " This bonus increases by 1d4 at 10th level, and again at 15th and 20th level." but unsure which level it is referring too.

Level Up (A5E) Voidrunner's codex - 'Always Prepared' Maneuver, is this a broken feature?

So you'd need ability to cast 7th level wizard spells for that combo. EG: Fighter3/Wizard13: 10 exertion; Specialization (Always Prepared); So, you could pull that off once every long rest. However, you could use Always Prepared 10 times every short rest.

Level Up (A5E) Voidrunner's codex - 'Always Prepared' Maneuver, is this a broken feature?

If we ignore the effects of power creep that comes with new material how much spell abuse could you get away with using Always Prepared currently?

Level Up (A5E) Maneuvers and crit stacking with Twist the Blade

Thanks for the clarity. It is for the barbarian in the game who a menace already so I just wanted to make sure the ruling was clear.

Level Up (A5E) Maneuvers and crit stacking with Twist the Blade

If you use Dangerous Strikes (crit on 19-20) and roll 17, could you still crit if you used Twist the Blade as a reaction? Or, could you only crit on 18-20 via Twist the Blade? Would the same thing happen with Dispelling Assault and Twist the Blade? Dangerous Strikes specifies that "If you...

Level Up (A5E) Gaze of conviction

Yeah, that's really strong. I think your version keeps the essence of the maneuver without a drastic change. I also don't like features that remove the GM's fun in the combat - I mean other than the death condition. Do you think an easier fix might be to include that the enemy can repeat the...

Level Up (A5E) Gaze of conviction

Indeed. I would think a 60ft circle jerk would be sufficient for this and the fighter could just pepper arrows at the poor fellow.

Level Up (A5E) Voidrunner's codex - 'Always Prepared' Maneuver, is this a broken feature?

Sure. I think the A5e designers removed Action Surge for its regular "abuse". Granted you've found a clever way to view the rules but it does, when used in this manner, comes across as "clever manipulation of the rules" to give you a somewhat unexpected favourable outcome. These are edge cases...

Level Up (A5E) Voidrunner's codex - 'Always Prepared' Maneuver, is this a broken feature?

I think you have a valid argument here because you have worded it such that the trigger occurs during your turn - thus granting "your" four attacks. However, I gather that had you instead triggered on the "when the enemy moves a muscle" (i.e., starts outside your turn) then it would be...

Level Up (A5E) Voidrunner's codex - 'Always Prepared' Maneuver, is this a broken feature?

From previous comments made, the Attack Action is being readied. However, as @W'rkncacnter pointed out, you can only make one attack because the Extra Attack feature can only be used on your turn. If I understand Game Theorist, then your example would allow you three attacks total, not four.

Level Up (A5E) Need a clarification on devoted assault

My interpretation of Devoted Assault is that it give you the "Advantage buff". That's pretty good as it doesn't require setup, it just cost 3 exertion and a bonus action. Additionally, it allows you to apply additional buffs when you crit. The fighter has an action left to use. He chooses...

Level Up (A5E) Gaze of conviction

I think Gaze of Conviction is pretty much in line with Tempered Iron in that it leans heavily toward being "anti-magic". It forces the spellcaster to fight on your terms by removing spell casting. However, there is a little catch because it targets a Wisdom save which reduces success chances...

Level Up (A5E) Draconic Armor and the Duelist's Quick-Witted Defense

Thank you. That's was my thinking as well. Sometimes it's hard to figure out if features are read separately or not. The player also pointed out that Defensive weapons are listed specifically which require the use of a shield to gain the benefit of the weapon property.

Level Up (A5E) Draconic Armor and the Duelist's Quick-Witted Defense

Does a character get the benefit of the +1 AC from Quick-Witted Defense even if they are using a shield and/or wearing armor and holding a parrying weapon?

Level Up (A5E) Voidrunner's codex - 'Always Prepared' Maneuver, is this a broken feature?

Seems to be working as intended from what I've read here. Have a look at the a similar maneuver: Instinctive Counterattack It achieves the same thing; can be used "In" & "Out" of turn; doesn't require Bonus action or a trigger. Using the maneuver Always Prepared would likely not be optimal for...
