WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

Trouble is a single 'does everything' setting just does everything badly. Or if it does entirely focus on a single tone or theme, alienates every player who doesn't enjoy that base tone or theme. You already see it with how ubiquitous magic is in base 5e, meaning that every setting has to...

WotC D&D Beyond Launches Its Character Quickbuilder

I think that DnD Beyond has just received the internet hug of death... Half the website is frozen. Edit: Also when i can get into the builder, all the sections are unable to be filled. I just get this:

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

I'd definitely love an ice age official setting at some point, where the world is slowly getting colder every year. Reading a worldbuilding project called Serina currently, and a big chunk part of that covers the ice slowly closing in a bit further every year. Eventually just a thin strip of...

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

I kind of want both. Two new settings, one fully embracing modern DnD and everything it represents. The other being a much more dark and gritty old style fantasy. Forgotten Realms is trying to be both, and managing to be neither.

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

If they did decide to work on a new setting, what would most people actually want to see? I kind of want a new base setting at this point, as Forgotten Realms has got so crowded with contradicting lore and retcons over the years.

D&D General Reincarnate is and has always been, weird.

oooh that's a really good point actually. Though I feel you'd need a more mature table to handle topics like that.

D&D General Reincarnate is and has always been, weird.

Another random reincarnation thought: If some species in your setting 'think' differently, does this shift the personality of the character who came back? I know a lot of settings have done away with the different sapient species thinking differently, but it did seem to be quite a major part of...

D&D General Reincarnate is and has always been, weird.

11 after that maybe? As that's technically their first incarnation? Edit: Oh god it would be mean to a player if you did the time lord thing where they get up seemingly well again in their own body. Give them a day or so to say goodbye before the reincarnation happens.

    D&D 5E (2024) How I would do 6E.

I don't mind the PC's themselves having magic in lower magic settings, as in some cases they should be the exception to the rule. But magic shouldn't feel completely ubiquitous wherever you go. I prefer settings where casters are rare and powerful, with every one being notable. In comparison to...

D&D General Reincarnate is and has always been, weird.

ngl I am fine with reincarnate no longer turning you into things like beasts. That's just having to go make a new character with extra steps, as the old one is now int 3, unable to use equipment, and the size of a cat.

    D&D 5E (2024) How I would do 6E.

Ideally I'd like 6e to be grittier, less magic, and a lower power level. It's easy to 'add' power through additional rules and supplements, but removing power below the baseline isn't nearly so easy. Overall I feel the base 5e 'game engine' is pretty solid. It's just what's built on that is...

D&D General Reincarnate is and has always been, weird.

Yeah I feel that one makes the most sense. Though I'd also be tempted to let the player roll for their new age (as a proportion of adult lifespan). Just to add to the randomness. The Doctor has reincarnated into a grumpy old man a few times, so it might be able to work.

D&D General Reincarnate is and has always been, weird.

It's not as expansive at the early versions, but I at least prefer to extend the table to include all playable species rather than just PHB ones. Still not sure how age impacts reincarnation. If you're a 250 year old elf, and reincarnate into a human, do you reenact that scene from The Last...

    D&D 5E (2024) How I Would Do 5.75

I've never seen the attraction of universal subclasses. To me a good subclass plays directly off the base classes features and abilities. A universal subclass basically has to pretend the base class doesn't exist to work. It would feel more like a multiclass than a proper class.

    D&D General 6e guesses

Honestly I'd like 5.5e/6e to have a new player focused 'simplified' set of classes specifically for those who don't want to deal with mechanics. Like the Tasha's warrior, expert, and mage, but balanced for players to use (and usable on dnd beyond). That way you can have a section of the game...

    D&D General 6e guesses

I suspect 6e will happen at some point, but not any time soon. The amount of work it will take to redo the character builder part of DnDBeyond for 5.5e makes me think that they're going to focus on this edition for a while. If a new edition does come out, I hope they provide options for lower...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

I prefer starting at level 1 when possible, though our group will often start at level 3 or level 5. Honestly I'd prefer to start at level 0 if it existed, as I prefer the 'zero to hero' trope. While modern DnD typically starts you at minor superhero power levels.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Is Now OFFICIALLY Called "5.5e"

I really can't imagine 6e coming within the next 5 years. From the roadmap it looks like they're putting a lot of effort into supporting 5.5e (including redoing the whole character creator on DnD Beyond). Though when they start working on 6e, I hope they actually give themselves enough time to...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Is Now OFFICIALLY Called "5.5e"

Personally I'm pretty happy about this change. 5.5e both matches what the game actually is better, while also being way easier to say and type than 'DnD 2024'.

D&D General 'Project Sigil' 3D Virtual Tabletop Finally Laid To Rest

Designing a piece of software which barely ran smoothly on high end gaming PCs, and then trying to market it to a community which largely does not have high end gaming PCs was.... a choice.
