    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

I do think that spending after the roll is better than spending before (with the assumed potential outcome of failure). I like when metacurrency is used to bend fat. it does not have to be perfect and always result in success, but (IMO) it should be MOST LIKELY to result in success after the fact.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

One of the reasons I like GM facing metacurrencies is because it helps alleviate the question of whether the GM was acting fairly. Don't get me wrong: everyone at the table is tere to have a good time, and I don't think we should forgive bad GMs for abusing their fiat power in trad games. But, I...

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

Out of curiosity, what is the playstyle you prefer and are there opinionated games that are in the same broad category as your preferences?

Note that I did not say anything about Draw Steel.

    Let's Talk About Metacurrency

[This is another htread in my ongoing exploration of foundational TTRPG elements to consider for Bucket: The RPG, my personal RPG design to check off a Bucket List item. The intent is not to talk about my game design, though, but to explore the subject -- in this case metacurrency -- in a way...

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

Interesting. I think a Seraph is significantly more specific than a Paladin and harder to reskin as some setting specific holy warrior type. note that none of this is really a criticism of DH. I am just arguing against the idea it is more generic than D&D.

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

I am not sure I agree about Daggerheart. The system pretty tightly maintains the intended playstyle, and the specifics of the classes and domains make it harder to rebrand than it should be.

    D&D 3.x I miss 3.5 edition

Every once in a while, I consider trying to run 3.5 again because there is a lot about it I like. Then I see a post by this and I remember that it was players that ruined 3.5.

D&D General Which D&D for Hometown Heroes?

You can set the level cap in D&D anywhere you want. I would not feel compelled to trt to make this concept work all the way up to 20th.

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

I don't know what to tell you. That is not what it means in the context of games. It means that it demands very specific play.

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

If that is the case, how do they present an intended playstyle? It isn't as if "supers" represents a monolithic playstyle.

The "author's opinions" is not at all what "opinionated" means in this context.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

Because the post I was responding to made a claim about the value of 1st and 2nd level as experiences for the character. That poster was not you, so I am not sure why you are arguing about this as if I had disagreed with you. I was not talking to those other multiple posters either. I was...

Paizo Price of Paizo PDFs goes up in 10 days

Let's review You made the claim My point is there is nothing inherently more profitable inherent in a PDF than in a print product. Both have costs associated with production, and both have a price point that the market will bear. I am curious why you think, then, that PDFs are inherently more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

I am not sure if we are talking past each other or what. I was saying that with the default advancement rate that there was not enough time for those low level experiences to matter much, because after 2 fights with goblins those normal joe PCs are on their way to Seal Teamism. And then I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

I get what you are saying. In 5E in particular, though, it falls flat for me because of how brief that "normal person| period is. 5E PCs literally go from first to 2nd level overnight. That is, after one bad day. Two days later and they are "Navy Seals" as you say, having hit 3rd level. I am not...
