    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard vs Sorcerer (a Campaign Experience)

Campaign Continued Tonight, we fought cultists in their dungeon. Rescued some prisoners. Still have to safely escort them out. Familiar Familiar scouting was proven super effective again, though we did encounter doors. Sorcerer chugged through his slots again. My Wizard wasn't nearly as...

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard vs Sorcerer (a Campaign Experience)

Agreed there are limitations. The Bladesinger is definitely being played more like a Wizard than like a Gish, so I don't think that criticism follows at all. I'm not sure that would actually be a better way to make a comparison. Most of the play difference at that point would depend on...

D&D General Lies, Darn Lies, and Statistics: Why DPR Isn't the Stat to Rule them All

No idea 🤷‍♂️. What does this have to do with anything?

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard vs Sorcerer (a Campaign Experience)

I think that's a fair assessment. In our campaign at least so far it's been primarily undead and aberrations in the town streets. For locked or even closed doors, the owl familiar doesn't bypass the door, but it can scout the area around the closed doors and also listen at the closed door...

D&D General Lies, Darn Lies, and Statistics: Why DPR Isn't the Stat to Rule them All

Sure. There is a tradeoff between minimizing assumptions for a more general purpose solution and how accurate the solution is a reflection of reality. What I can say is that DPR comparisons are typically directional to actual damage dealt in the long run.

Make an assumption. Just like you do with accuracy.

D&D General Lies, Darn Lies, and Statistics: Why DPR Isn't the Stat to Rule them All

This seems to be the actual sentiment of most who complain about DPR, but they are just wrong. If you wanna say DPR isn’t everything then I 1000% agree but there’s a big difference between that and useless. The argument here makes 0 sense. You seem fine with video games including cooldown...

D&D General Hypothetical: D&D without ability scores (or bonuses)

I guess you could turn strength into a skill?

D&D General Hypothetical: D&D without ability scores (or bonuses)

Why would that be a rebuttal? Wizards can be strong and/or charismatic.

D&D General Hypothetical: D&D without ability scores (or bonuses)

Under the no ability scores method How does one differentiate a strong wizard from a charismatic wizard?

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard vs Sorcerer (a Campaign Experience)

I don't know why you always do this or try to frame things this way. Your previous claims on chromatic orb are quite varied and have gone something like: It's better than fireball. That it's really good regardless of what class you take it with. Nor is my post in any way evidence of that or...

    D&D 5E (2024) Wizard vs Sorcerer (a Campaign Experience)

Campaign Currently I am playing a campaign where I am a Wizard and a friend is a Sorcerer. Last session we just hit level 4 and I thought I'd share my impressions so far. But first here's some necessary background. The campaign is set a bit post apocolypic. Something happened, the sun turned...

    D&D 5E (2024) Strategies and Tactics Barbarian (2024)

Yes, but ranges from 30-180 do come up quite often. You mean the within 30 ft range situation? Zealot will do more damage in that position, I agree. As an example scenario, Zealot will do less damage to a potentially more important backline targets. Zealot will also take more damage in...

    D&D 5E (2024) Strategies and Tactics Barbarian (2024)

I didn’t say I think the wildheart is worse either.

    D&D 5E (2024) Strategies and Tactics Barbarian (2024)

The whole range band effectively lengthens by your move speed on the Wildheart. Melee range is extended 30-40 ft. Normal Range of ranged/thrown weapons is extended 30-40 ft. Long range of ranged/thrown weapons is extended 30-40 ft. Given the nature of javelins, this means that anything more...

    D&D 5E (2024) Strategies and Tactics Barbarian (2024)

Right, I think zealot is very good, but I’m just not that excited to play one.

    D&D 5E (2024) Strategies and Tactics Barbarian (2024)

Sure, at level 3, at precisely 60ft away, with no other enemies involved you can outdamage slightly with a zealot. (Talking 1/2 level rounded down, so 1 damage). That's not going to be true for 80ft (any level). That's not going to be true at level 4 with GWM and probably not true with PAM...

    D&D 5E (2024) Strategies and Tactics Barbarian (2024)

You’ve not shown your actually killing enemies a turn earlier. The question is whether the Zealots extra damage causes more damage than the Wildheart ability to position himself into melee, against the most priority targets.
