    4e Ranger builds

Inspired by one of my miniatures, the barbarian from the Diablo II video game, I made a human "barbrangian" wielding two battleaxes :)

Do you know you're a bad GM?

I've GMd RPGs for 17 years now and I still feel like a bumbling novice. That said, I make no illusions that my campaigns are going to be epic sagas worthy of literature. They are what they are. I've only had one player ever walk out on a game of mine, but in the words of the other players, he...

    Ring of Winter stats?

I think Heroes' Lorebook (AD&D 2nd) has them.

I said "No" when I should have said "Yes".

This past weekend, I was running a certain adventure* that features an encounter with patches of mushrooms as an obstacle. The patches of mushrooms have random detrimental properties when disturbed. After the encounter, a player identified one of the mushroom patches with a successful...

How do I get a combat-heavy player interested in ROLE playing?!

To add to this, lead by example. If your enemies don't taunt, boast, and threaten the PCs in combat how can you expect the players to? I'm guilty of this one, getting lazy and letting combat devolve into "he hits"/"he misses" for the sake of expediency.

    Living FR Adventures

You need to actually schedule an RPGA event in order to download the adventures. Here's how: RPGA Report: Organizing Your First Living Forgotten Realms Game

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate about 4e D&D

Love: Shoot! Just about everything! Most "problems" with previous edition(s) addressed. DMing is less of a chore (again). Hate: Major errors (skill challenges, stealth rules) at launch. I don't mind minor errors, but ones that affect playabilty at release is shameful. At least they were...

Justifying high level 'guards', 'pirates', 'soldiers', 'assassins', etc.

Short Answer: Like people said: it's a metagame thing, don't think about it. Long Answer: Tougher heroes attract the attention of tougher enemies. Ex. 1: You may have bested Lord Shacklethorne's lowly goons in the past, but now he has spared no expense in getting rid of your meddling selves...

Experience Points and Leveling in an Adventure Path

I understand the concern. For some players, gaining experience points gives a feeling of accomplishment as opposed to having their levels "handed" to them. May I suggest that you re-think how you reward players overcoming an encounter? If they overcome the obstacle presented by an...

Stuff that still bugs me about 4e

An new pact for warlocks called Dark Pact. It seems more Underdark-themed, though.

I think published adventures require MORE prep, not less.

When I run adventures I've written myself, they always seem to flow more smoothly, since most of the information is already in my head. I can't get that with published adventures no matter how much I read over them or prepare. That said, KotS is really easy to run. I've been running it with a...

    Starter Set - $16.99

Looks like it will be something like KotS w/dice, tiles & minis. A pretty good deal, IMO.

Wordles of the PHB and DMG

Wordle - Forgotten Realms Campaign Set (1st Edition) Interesting how you can clearly see some iconic Realms nouns like: "Elminster", "Shadowdale", "Waterdeep", and "Zhentil".

Whee! They should do sets that coincide with the sample encounters in the Monster Manual.

One major thing I sure miss...

As happy as I am with the new edition, I have to agree with the OP, especially after I thought about the rest of the releases for this year: Forgotten Realms Player's Guide - Pre-ordered. I like the new realms stuff so I can't wait to have this one in my grubby paws. Scepter Tower of...

    Book Covers?

I've always used clear plastic laminate (such as Contact Paper) on my most heavily used books. It really extends the life of the book.

    Favorite Cleric

Grent of Gond (Gnome cleric, AD&D 2E Forgotten Realms) - Started out as a DMPC for healing support and ended up as the party's personal magic weaponsmith. Signature features: bad irish accent, floppy hat, his "Magic Shillelagh", a magical mace with various "enhancements" a la Captain Caveman's...
