    A DM's S.O.S

I have committed one of the classic blunders! No, not getting into a land war in Asia or going up against Sicilians when death is on the line, but something much worse for DMs: too much daydreaming of campaign ideas and not enough adventure writing. My only excuse is that I'm rusty at...

    Forked Thread: Rescue at Rivenroar...Bad!

Forked from: Gleemax is Dead I was just curious, what are the problems with this adventure? I have only skimmed through it, but I have considered running it. Could someone please enlighten me?

    <- Sucker

So, in an effort to catch up on my collection non-crunch 3.x products, I ordered a few of the Fantastic Locations map products. Mostly because I liked the Keep on the Shadowfell poster maps. Turns out, THEY ARE THE SAME RECYCLED MAPS! At least the ones from Dragondown Grotto are. I know, I...

Goodman Games Dungeon Crawl Classics - So which ones are the best?

Yes, it's definitely a snake-themed adventure, and therefore a perfect fit with the titan, Mormo. It's set in a desert so it can fit anywhere in the Southwestern parts of Ghelspad. There's a nice twist with the end "boss" which I won't spoil here. In my upcoming 4E campaign (a re-imagined...

Goodman Games Dungeon Crawl Classics - So which ones are the best?

I got #51.5: Sinister Secret of Whiterock first. I was so impressed, I browsed around and got these: #4: Bloody Jack's Gold #7: The Secret of Smuggler's Cove #8: Mysteries of the Drow #12: The Blackguard's Revenge #16: Curse of the Emerald Cobra #18: Citadel of the Demon Prince #22: The...

Goodman Games Dungeon Crawl Classics - So which ones are the best?

I was sooo wrong So, I never got got into the DCC line. I think the "old school" marketing that made it a success just turned me off, which is weird, considering I like most of the D&D "classics": Remember the good old days, when adventures were underground, NPCs were there to be killed, and...

    Turning over a New Leaf

I'd love to, but I have to admit I'm addicted to the drama. It's like watching bad daytime talk shows! Still I can try to help by posting more about actual gaming in the near future :)

Will later printings of the 4E core rulebooks contain all the errata being released?

Personally, I developed a distaste for the errata game with 3E. It's an OCD nightmare, really. I used to keep a nice folder with all the most current errata and highlighted parts of the books that had errata for them, but it got to be tiresome to keep up with after a while. In the end, I...

That's it; I am done buying minis'!

I guess this is a bad time to tell you that I got a free dragonborn mini by accident when I ordered some singles :p

Campaigns in a nutshell. Adventures in a sentence.

My next 4E campaign's hook: The PCs wash up on the shores of an island, remembering very little. Can they survive the dangers of the Isle of Dread and remember their forgotten mission in time to complete it or will they fall prey to the machinations of the isle's Yuan-ti masters? Note: It...

Cleric and Paladin - What's the Difference?

I think their roles as defenders vs. leaders are part of the answer, even if it's a bit metagamey. To put it simply, cleric is to paladin what warlord is to fighter. I can easily see a cleric leading a company of paladins in holy battle.

Of Edition Changes, Nostalgia, and Such (Long)

I hate that I have to make such a disclaimer, but please don't make this an edition war thread. Everyone has a valid argument for liking or not liking X or Y edition, so no need to argue about it. Okay? Now, I was thinking about why it has been so easy for me to switch D&D editions over the...

Dorkiest Thing You've Ever Done in Gaming...

While running the Dragonlance adventure, DL2 - Dragons of Hope, I suddenly grabbed a fencing mask in a flash of inspiration in order to portray Verminaard the Dragon Highlord. The game ground to a halt as we got all the Darth Vader, "I am your father" jokes out of our system. Later in the...

    Dragon 365 Table of Contents

She's a navel-pact artificer. Giving up your belly-button for powers is a pretty sweet deal. :D

    What defines D&D ?

"Dungeons & Dragons, D&D, d20, d20 System, WIZARDS OF THE COAST, Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual, D&D Insider, all other Wizards of the Coast product names, and their respective logos are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast in the U.S.A. and other countries." ;)

    What exactly is a Grognard?

I think there's a few things in common for RPG grognards, at least in its negative connotation: - 30+ years in age - Probably started roleplaying from the beginning and/or up to 2nd edition AD&D (IMO 3e is still within the last decade, though that won't be the case for much longer). - Does...

Points of Light Killed the Campaign Setting...

This looks like I product I could get into. You have the potential for a few mini campaigns there.

Points of Light Killed the Campaign Setting...

It isn't, but that wasn't the point I was trying to get across (no edition wars, please.) The concept of PoL has made me think campaign design differently from before, where I would stick to one campaign setting at a time and it was unthinkable to have elements from other worlds mix. It's the...

Points of Light Killed the Campaign Setting...

...at least it did for me. Don't get me wrong, I loves me my campaign settings. I probably have material for every major D&D campaign setting ever published and quite a few 3rd-party ones. Thing is, I'm really digging the PoL's micro-to macrocosm approach. I can't help but feel constrained...
