    Skill Chellenges - unfun?

This is a great blog for making Skill Challenges more fun: Skill Challenges Archive - At Will Here are some of my own suggestions at some more alternative uses for Skill Challenges: gametime: [D&D4e] Alternative Uses for Skill Challenges

    4e Change of mind

Seems like I am in the minority here but I started off disliking 4e but ever since the books were released I have become more and more in favour of 4e. If we could just get some adventures that fulfil the 4e promise I would be happy.

    Dawn of Defiance Campaign Experiences?

Not much Star Wars love :) I am running Dawn of Defiance. We are just about to finish episode 5. I have personally cut each adventure down by about 1/3 purely as I like my Star Wars to move at a very fast pace. However, the advantures could likewise be exapnded for a campaign stretching over a...

    Starter Set - $16.99

What about if you remove the Ranger, the Warlock, the Paladin and the Warlord? That's still providing the 4 iconic classes and covers the 3 powers and 4 roles. I still think that you can take the existing D&D4e ruleset, trim it down to a 96 page PHB (4 races, 4 classes, 3 levels, trimmed...

    Starter Set - $16.99

I totally agree that this would a much better starter set. I also think you could streamline this material down further by removing 25% of the Powers and a number of the less used combat options and equipment to get down to a 96 pages. Add in a 64 page book for GMs with 20 pages of monsters and...

What 4e products have you purchased?

My original plan was to focus on adventures and rules books. However, the three Heroic modules were very bad IMO with their pure and inflexible dungeon structure. Adventurer's Vault looks to be 200 pages of magic items and again I find that to be very dull. On saying that, the FR setting stuff...

4e - Scepter Tower of Spellgard

I have it. It has a more loose feel than the 3 Heroic modules, which IMO is to its advantage. Rather than a complete the dungeon beginning to end, it is more focussed around foiling a villain's plan and encountering the prophetic ghost. In combination with the FRCG I think this makes for a much...

The Force Unleashed has arrived . . .

You can do that with Saga without the need of TFU. Lightsaber's ignore DR. Battlestrike can add +5d6 damage to the Lightsaber's base 2d8. Add in Dark Rage for +6, a good strength on a two handed lightsaber for +4, a critical hit to double damage, Powerful Charge for another +10 and a decent...

Pac Initiave allows Warlock PARAGON PATHS, Why the exception?

The multiclass rules say that if you take the 4 multiclass feats, you may choose to take a paragon path of your second class.

Can a once a month game work?

Yes it works fine. I would suggest that you try and finish at an appropriate point, rather than in the middle of something. Also, starting the session with a summary of the previous sessions is helpful.

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

Beautiful. I haven't laughed so hard in days. Thanks :D

    Female opinions, please

No. By the looks of this thread, it is a common reaction :)

    Female opinions, please

I am not a female, but D&D4e was the first RPG that my wife has ever felt confident enough to offer to DM (she has RPGed for 10 years). She found the books to be well organised, more explicit as to how to create adventures and run them, and she was inspired by the heroic tone.

    Dexterity or Strength for attacks?

Most of the Rogue's Powers are Dex based, including the At-Wills. So you use your Dex rather than your Str. This doesn't apply for you melee base attack though which remains Str based.

    OGL Cloning 4e?

Personally, I would be very cautious of such an idea. Leaving aside the merits of the arguments, it could bring down a world of hurt on you. If one thing about being a lawyer has taught me is is that everyone looses in litigation, unless you are big enough to soak the costs from the outset.

    Favourite D&D Ruleset

People seem to be statting their preference without comparing it to or attacking other editions. Therefore it lacks the "war" part.

    Favourite D&D Ruleset

This seems to be a common feeling amongst 4e supporters. Until 4e, 1e was may favourite version of D&D. However, I feel that 4e is the first time that they have maintained the spirit of 1e whilst updating it with modern game design.

Pramas on 4E and New Gamers

FWIW it is only 6 Attack numbers against 4 Def. However, what is more important is that each Attack works the same way in 4e. You don't have auto success attacks, Attack roll attacks and resisted by Saving Throws attacks. This is one reason why 4e is very streamlined in comparison to its...

How to get a lot of minis on the cheap?

Not minis exactly but you could try this option: 1. Buy Fiery Dragon Counter Collections 1 and 2. 2. Print in color on label paper. 3. Put on foam board or cardboard. That should give you about 750 counters for about US$30. To give you a look at the end result:

4E - WotC's equivalent to the New World of Darkness?

FWIW I consider 3e to be a far bigger reboot than 4e will be. Most of the stuff we see in 4e is derived from 3e. The introduction of a Skill system, discrete powers and feats, tactical combat system, prestige/paragon classes, increased power level etc all really have their roots in 3e. So, yes...
