    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

You told another poster you can only do certain kinds of adventures at certain levels. I countered.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

I think it is a mistake to think that the "help your uncle gather ingredients" is somehow locked to low level. What if your uncle is an archmage and the ingredients are in the feywild? And a 1st level character can get conscripted and have to march across the country in order to fight under...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

It seems to me that you can start 0 level 5 characters with just their species and background, with 5 hp and their proficiency bonus. Then when they hit 1st, they get their class and whatever HP that brings.

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

Terms have meaning in their context. That you refuse to acknowledge that meaning in order to argue with the term instead of discuss the subject is on you.

    Let's Talk About "Intended Playstyle"

Opinionated is NOT a term of judgment. It just means "has an opinion." Thinking it is negative says more about the reader than the system.

[NOT HERE] Me: Hey, public forum, I could use some recommendations that fit these precise criteria. Everyone: Let me tell you about my favorite thing that isn't any of those criteria!

What is the intended playstyle, and how does the game enforce it?

D&D General Which D&D for Hometown Heroes?

So thinking more about this, core 5E does not really offer anything to help with this. That said, there are probably thousands of 3pp books that support different aspects. Does anyone have any recommendations for 5E 3PP books that are aimed at integrating play into the small town, developing...

    Homebrew Designing My First...Thing

Don't be afraid to steal liberally. if you have an adventure or starting area or whatever from a published module you like, you can start with that. Reskin it and tweak it to make it yours. File off the serial numbers. Replace major NPCs with ones you made yourself or even stole from somewhere...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do You Start At Level 1?

I know this is the theory, but I think in most folks experiences at "level 1" just mean fewer options within the same D&D play loop that exists at essentially every level (now that domain management is not a thing). The rats are an appropriate challenge. So are the wolves later, and then the...

D&D General Which D&D for Hometown Heroes?

Scanning through it, I think there is some interesting stuff here to adapt to Shadowdark to build a "cozy" SD game about the village and the threats it faces. The biggest thing would be, I think, to pivot XP away from treasure finding to something to do with protecting the community and building...

Also, just because you can blast Mongul into the sun doesn't mean you can solve a small town corruption problem in the same way. You can't fix that sort of thing by punching it.

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Arcana Unleashed, New Magic-Themed Sourcebook at $49.99 Price Point

Only if you go by the very weird assumption that they would have UA'd everything that would have been in the book. Why would that be a thing?

Trailer Lanterns | Official Teaser | HBO Max

One thing that is interesting about Gunn's DC Universe here is that supers have been around for a while. Some of them are going to be getting ready to retire. The idea of building in the Passing of the Torch to the universe from the get go is kind of bold, if they can pull it off. Will we see...

Stonetop does look interesting, though I am not a huge fan of PbtA games.
