Oops. I was referring to the comment that 5e multiclass chars had their drawbacks. Sorry for stealing the topic... (Re. Monk infusion: spellslots and some party support, but more important: it matches my character's background.)

Sacrifice in ability... yeah, somewhat. But a 5e Fighter (Eldritch Knight) / Cleric is a nice combo. Spam Fire Bolt whilst closing in for melee. Backup the monk if he / she's down. I think that's one of the combo's that works. And actually I don't mind some drawbacks on multiclass characters...

I didn't even ever see a 3.5 starter set in real life, our here in the boondocks... But a quick Google shows that there were actually two versions, one with and one without character creation rules. Still, can't help it: IMHO the 5e starter set had been the best of all. Only took 20+ years to...

Yep, the (re)use of the word 'Essentials' did surprise me... And yeah, just turned my 5e Dwarf fighter into a F3C1 High Dex Low Strength Trickster Cleric Eldritch Knight Ninja dagger thrower. That casts wizardly and clerical spells... Duh...

I don't need a 6.0 or even a 5.5 yet. But witch the much larger market (as compared with a number of years ago) and the amount of experience with 5.0 I could live with a 5.1, something with errata included, a reworked PHB with some new better clarified text, some new artwork, a few extra classes...

Actually, I own pretty much every starter set since 2e, en I have to say the (regular) 5e starter set just might be the best... (Though I like the box of the 4e starter set.)

At the time I considered buying it (probably should have done) but didn't. Life got in the way, and this thing was expensive... Even getting it printed today, with one of the online printing services, it still ain't cheap. But... I did buy the .PDF versions, and enjoyed them immensely. So much...

Best and worst... Best... either something Planescape (love that setting) or Ptolus (unfortunately I don't have an original print, I had to buy the PDF's and print them and have them bound in hardcovers, looks fantastic though). I also like the old AD&D 2e PHB, but that's probably just me...
