Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

The Backerkit project ended in June of 2025. Back in (I think) November 2025, an update had indicated that most of the manuscript editing had been completed. The most recent update was from 2 months ago and showed some of the artwork that will be in the book: City State of the Invincible...

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

I think it's valid to question going back on a previous statement. Though, I do not believe there was ever any reasonable chance that the fear/concern/whatever of Bledsaw riding some sort of ttrpg zeitgeist to... well, to anything, as a result of the project. I'm more inclined to believe that...

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

Maybe. But, as far as I can tell, Judges Guild still hasn't benefited, and Bledsaw isn't doing anything beyond what he was already doing. Judges Guild and Bledsaw don't work for Goodman Games. Bledsaw is (I assume) posting whatever rants he was already posting on Facebook. Judges Guild, as a...

Who Should Make The Next Star Wars TTRPG, And What Should It Look Like?

That's kinda how the Fantasy Flight Games/Asmodee version works. You roll a force die (which is a d12 showing white and black dots to represent the force). To activate a power, you need to roll enough force dots. You may choose to count the black dots as successes, but doing so means that you...

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

I checked the Backerkit FAQ to see if there were any updates: FAQ | City State of the Invincible Overlord - BackerKit It appears that the City State page is currently quiet, but that makes sense given that most of the attention is currently shifting to Castle Whiterock and the various...

D&D General Combat as War vs. Sport and a Missing Third Mode

Some good points here. I think the promos, entrances, and etc are more about campaign and encounter structure than Combat as Sport or Combat as War. You can do the same thing in a ttrpg by having challenges and encounters that are not strictly limited to the battlefield. Perhaps there's an...

Sunday Nonsense: Which TTRPG Systems Survive

The opposite for me. GURPS 4th Edition is one of my favorite games (and I'm looking forward to the revised core set.) In contrast, I have little-to-no experience with Savage Worlds. I think I dabbled in a few one-shots years ago, but I don't remember much about the game.

D&D General Combat as War vs. Sport and a Missing Third Mode

My opinion about pro-wrestling is that it seeks to portray Combat as Sport as the starting point. A particularly dastardly heel might veer into Combat as War (when the referee is distracted). Likewise, a particularly heated feud that blows off with a special type of match may veer into Combat as...

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

I wouldn't. I would build a new setting that was built with how 5.5 works in mind. For example, 5.5 tends to assume commonplace magic and color-coded giants and Goliath as a common PC lineage. Build a setting that acknowledges those things from the ground up rather than trying to push those...

WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

I think a new setting that is built with 5.5 mechanics and design mentality in mind would seem more coherent than trying to jam together incongruous fluff and crunch.

D&D General D&D 3.5 - splatbook power creep or no?

Fair enough. For me, I likely would get rid of charm person, mage armor, and some of the combat spells. Instead, I would pick utility spells that also have uses in combat. A lot of my combat spells would often be battlefield control (like web). I'm not saying that to debate spell choice. Just...

D&D General D&D 3.5 - splatbook power creep or no?

I do think I may be misunderstanding some. Though, I will also add that (for me personally,) I didn't "memorize a variety of combat spells." I prefer to focus on things that most people likely don't think of as being combat spells. It's less that I was intentionally trying to be a rogue (or...

D&D General D&D 3.5 - splatbook power creep or no?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I typically did play casters who had utility spells when playing 3.5. (I still do when I play D&D now.) Seems odd to me that I would have the power of the universe at my fingertips and I would limit myself to direct damage, when I can do things like alter the...

AI/LLMs Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

I think that is a good point. Though, I would also say that not all tasks/skills are of equal baseline value. I believe that certain skills, such as critical thinking and logic are foundational to other skills. As another user said, the current issue with AI is that a lot of people are just...

AI/LLMs Hasbro CEO Says AI Integration Has Been "A Clear Success"

My guess (without any study or evidence) is that it probably does reduce skill in people who are over-reliant on it, in the same way that over-reluance on GPS may reduce the ability of some people to figure out where they're going without it.

D&D General D&D 3.5 - splatbook power creep or no?

Kinda, in so far as trying to jump into every option can be overwhelming. But one of the things I love about GURPS is that the system actually is modular in a way that rarely breaks. Even when it does, the underlying design is intuitive enough that it's not difficult to fix.

D&D General D&D 3.5 - splatbook power creep or no?

I partially agree. Despite all its warts, 3rd Edition had a lot of good ideas, and it is the edition that managed the task of transitioning from TSR to WotC, and doing so in a mostly successful way. A lot of the Prestige Classes were cool concepts (even if the mechanics varied wildly between...

For extra goodness, you set up a Demiplane where time flows differently. Time Stop --> Teleport to Demiplane --> Full Rest --> Return to encounter with a full compliment of spells

D&D General D&D 3.5 - splatbook power creep or no?

It's been a while, but I vaguely remember the issue being that I had an ability where I made a performance check; then any spell caster that could hear me had to beat my performance check with a spell check to be able to cast. I can't remember how (it'sbeen nearly 20 years,) but I think this...

D&D General D&D 3.5 - splatbook power creep or no?

Thoughts: I agree with what was said in the other thread about some of the most egregious 3.5 options being in the PHB. However, I also agree that splat books offered some broken options. (Though, to be fair, some of the splat books also contained options that sounded cool but actually sucked...
