D&D General Weird "DnD Is Dead" Youtube Trend??

Yup, I watched Dungeon Craft's latest "D&D as we know it is over." video. No I won't link to it because I don't think he deserves the views. He says a lot, and none of it is news or different. We can still play D&D with the newly released books. Online or offline. There are more people to play...

D&D General Weird "DnD Is Dead" Youtube Trend??

Category B still makes people think about D&D as if it is dying. Fueling disinformation just to draw clicks to a take that doesn't help anyone. He doesn't make the video because he feels strongly about the subject, he's making the video because he wants to make money. The difference is in...

D&D General Weird "DnD Is Dead" Youtube Trend??

I won't ever give that kind of behavior a pass because of the damage it does to our community. We all know anger gets clicks, because outrage makes us stupid. Making videos to make people stupid, hateful and distrustful is one of the most toxic things you can do in our community, ESPECIALLY if...

D&D General Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Coming From Luke Gygax & WotC

I had the same experience with the 5.5e DMG. It was so generic that I just saw it as something I could steal some stuff from, but nothing more than that. My hope is that there won't be a Greyhawk book released, but something like Keith Baker's stuff getting on DNDBeyond and DMsGuild.

D&D General Melf's Guide to Greyhawk Coming From Luke Gygax & WotC

More Greyhawk? I had hoped we had seen the last of it crammed into the DMG. There is nothing inspiring to me about the setting, and I don’t see any reason to be excited about the son of the guy who drove the original company into the ground. They’ll release it and the same people who are...

D&D 5E (2024) Future of D&D Encounters Program with Chris Tulach!

I asked Chris via the Mastering Dungeons discord about international play: There was a test in Burbank a couple weeks ago where they tried these pre-gens:

WotC WotC Winter 2026 D&D Community Survey

Well, those bastion protections didn't stop me in my current campaign. Still, I can see your point. That doesn't mean it's "DM Hostile". After all, it's the DM's decision to add the system or not. You're really making a big exaggeration of a story that just tells me you would be fine in your...

WotC WotC Winter 2026 D&D Community Survey

Some solid points! I'd even go so far as ask them to just leave the old settings to the people who already have the books. Those people are impossible to please anyway. Make something new! But what about Bastions is DM hostile? The crafting rules, sure, but Bastions? And Dance Bards really...

D&D General Are you content with what you have in DnD regarding physical/digital material?

I would love more fleshed out setting books like Theros, Van Richten’s and the Eberron book.

D&D General Design issues with 5e

Dude, 3.5 is a different game. Everything about the game was different. Why should we compare them? Can you give me meaningful context on how strong PCs were, their to hit chance, damage and the like? But let’s finish whatever this drag-out argument that won’t change our minds will get to. 3.5...

D&D General Design issues with 5e

Please read both our posts. He was referring to the 5e wight. I don't play 3.5e and I don't care for it.

D&D General Design issues with 5e

81 hp instead of 45 is one monster. Stop exagerrating. The average is still about 60. And we all agreed with the old encounter design things were too easy. I don't blame HP. They mostly just moved monsters to the average. Below I made a table of all CR3 monsters in both 5e MM and 5.5e MM. For...

D&D General Design issues with 5e

Try 5.5e, it's a lot better at the high levels. Plus PCs deal more damage, so that's not the issue. The problem is more all the added abilities used every bonus action, reaction and for free.

D&D General Design issues with 5e

What makes having more HP a problem in 5e? That fights take longer? Or is this just comparing old monsters to new monsters and seeing a higher number?

D&D General Design issues with 5e

I don't really care about older editions, since they just had different math. Is "HP Bloat" an actual problem? PCs deal more and more damage, does the HP outscale their output? And is it really more fun if PCs have their abilities and attacks fail more, instead of the monsters weathering more...

D&D General Design issues with 5e

Spells are just codified abilities not connected to classes or feats. Once you see spells as abilities that are magic, you understand that they offer a lot of effective use for many usecases. Making 10 different versions of some ability that works like a spell just uses a lot more page space and...

D&D General Actual Play: Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set

Yesterday I ran a little homebrew mystery in the Keep on the Borderlands using the new starter set. I didn’t have time to flesh out the mystery much, and I was worried to have this be the first experience with D&D for the players. It went GREAT! The little quests in the booklet were perfect...

D&D 5E (2024) New Campaign: Should I make the switch to 5.5? (SOLVED)

The three campaigns I play in have all transitioned to 5.5E, and I enjoy them. If you already use the 5.5e MM, you already have the best book of the bunch. The monsters finally start hitting at their CR. Combine that with the new encounter math, and you can finally trust the numbers. Low...
