    D&D General The commoner railgun

Does anyone have a link to or record of the actual first usage of the commoner railgun? I've managed to narrow it down to, probably, somewhere in late July of 2001. Around July 25th, I see examples of things like "a relay race of people carrying halflings", and on the 31st, I see a reference to...

D&D 5E command [approach]: take action on turn?

It seems to me that the other example Command spell uses all at least strongly imply "do nothing but this". Approach doesn't specifically state that the target has to use their action (say, Dash) to approach you, just that they approach you, and only specifies ending the turn at that point if...

    D&D 5E psychic scream: 0hp or killed

Psychic scream causes head exploding if it kills a creature. Options: 1. They meant "if it reduces the target to 0hp". 2. They meant "if it does enough damage past the creature's current hit points to exceed its maximum hit points". 3. It is either of those, depending on whether the GM causes...

D&D 5E Comparison/number-crunching time! -5/+10 feats: How much "too good" are they?

So I realized that I was overlooking a thing in evaluating the math on the -5/+10 feats: I was overlooking the opportunity cost. Which is to say: If you didn't get that feat, what would you get instead? So the comparison isn't between using a -5/+10 feat and not using it. It should be, at least...

D&D 5E Dragon+ -- any reasonably accessible way to read this?

Which is to say: PDF or HTML or something as a plain download, rather than their gratuitously complicated and unusable web interface? Not an "app". Just a document I can read.

D&D 5E Can monks still punch?

So, with "unarmed strike" removed from the weapons table, it's no longer a "simple weapon". Tavern Brawler gives proficiency with unarmed strike. Monk doesn't. Since I'm the GM, I'm just handwaving this as "don't be silly of course monks have proficiency in unarmed strike", but it seems to me...

    D&D 5E Conjuration and diagonals

The conjurer arcane tradition allows you to conjure something "no more than three feet on a side". It seems intuitively obvious that you can't use this to conjure a five-foot-long pole. It also seems intuitively obvious that you can use this to conjure, say, a lightweight box (think cardboard)...

D&D 5E Comprehend Languages and "literal" meaning

Got to thinking: What does comprehend languages do if you don't know a language in which the literal meaning can be directly expressed? As a real-world example, there's nothing you can say in Chinese that is a correct translation of the English "no". You can't really translate that. So imagine...

D&D 5E Do any creatures not eat/sleep? What about familiars?

I can't find anything specific on this. Monster manual says there's no specific rules for the creature types themselves. Find familiar makes your familiar a celestial, fey, or fiend (your choice). When a chain-pact warlock casts find familiar, they can also pick additional forms, like sprite...

D&D 5E herbalism kit and potions...

So there's a single offhand remark in the PHB saying that you need proficiency with an herbalism kit to make antidotes or potions of healing. The DMG rules say nothing about it, so far as I can tell. Is there any more explanation on this, or on how it works, or is that all we know? Do you need...

    D&D 5E Solo games viable?

I mean, obviously, with experienced GM, etc., you can handwave a lot of things. But in terms of overall balance, how easy/hard would it be to make 5e stuff work with a single player? Might need two characters or henchmen, I suppose.

    D&D 5E Permanent True Polymorph

So, when I ask people about this, I get two answers. Say you polymorph a person into another creature; say, an Adult Red Dragon. You concentrate to maintain the spell. They get knocked to 0 hit points. They resume their original form at whatever hit points they had left, less any excess damage...

D&D 5E Elemental weapon... Paladin only, goes up to 7th level?

I get the feeling there must be some sort of oversight here? You can build paladin/full-caster hybrid that can learn Elemental Weapon and also have a 7th level slot, but it's not easy.
