SW Houston - Friday nights, 3.5 seeking players.

126 views. Tough crowd. We do have a new player (not through enworld) but could still use 1-2 more players. Anyway, here's the latest recap. New session is this Friday. Players : Eric, Wes, Norm, Terry, Brad, Raul (new guy) -----------------------------------------------------------------...

SW Houston - Friday nights, 3.5 seeking players.

Man, 67 views and no bites. The suck must be strong with our little game group. :-) In an effort to entice folks joining, here's the latest recap as well as the previous two sessions to begin the current story arc. I'll try to remember to post them here. Session 44 Players : Eric, Wes, Norm...

SW Houston - Friday nights, 3.5 seeking players.

Hello, We have a long running game group in SW Houston (Missouri City specifically) that plays every other Friday evening (next game is 10/15/10) from 7-2 (sometimes we end early). The current campaign is run in a custom world with very little published material. The group is by and large...

    limits on leadership?

IMO that interpretation is one of the ways that DM's allow leadership to be abused. For example, the XP rules don't seem to have a mechanism for dealing with a cohort of a cohort since it's dependent upon the PC XP (which can't apply to a cohort). I know there is all sorts of debate on this...

Question about a Cleric and a Succubus?

+1 IMO there is nothing fundamental that would cause the cleric to have an issue. Now, that could change if the CN character is played by a chaotic stupid player... ;)

    limits on leadership?

IMO this can be remedied with a simple application of "supply and demand". If the player floods the market with a certain item it quickly becomes something that is no longer profitable to make.

    limits on leadership?

+1. This is IMO one of the biggest abuses of leadership. DM's get lazy and tell the player to make their cohort. Further, being 2 levels behind can put a cohort at serious risk. I'm not sure if this is RAW, but I also don't allow cohorts to have the leadership feat. By definition they aren't...

    Pyrohydra

Hey, my players have a 10th level warlock in the party with an unlimited amount of ranged fire based attacks that have no save at all and only need to hit an AC of 9. I'm not even sure if he can miss that AC. I never said they were brilliant tacticians. ;)

    Intelligent Weapons Vs. DR

Actually, no I'm not. In fact I explicitly called out the concept of align weapon and similar spells and effects and differentiated between "aligning" a weapon and alignment. They aren't the same thing any more than alignment and an alignment subtype are the same thing. Now, if you want to...

    Intelligent Weapons Vs. DR

Er, no I didn't assume that. He pretty clearly interchanged alignment and alignment subtype throughout his examples. He started with a subtype and the fact that it bypasses DR, then switched to just regular old alignment while trying to keep the DR bypass. Essentially it's a bait and switch...

    Intelligent Weapons Vs. DR

I don't think you are correct here. You have made some leaps of logic that aren't justified, which is resulting in flawed conclusion. This is the first part of your logic flaw. First, alignment and alignment subtype are not the same. They aren't even directly related in fact. For example, a...

    Intelligent Weapons Vs. DR

IMO you have reached a flawed conclusion by ignoring "A creature with an alignment subtype". No, merely having an alignment does not bypass DR. Now, if the sword somehow had the subtype, then yes.

    Pyrohydra

FWIW, this is how we do it. Just had a party of 3 with 2 NPCs encounter a "10 headed dragon looking thing". It wound up being quite the comedy. The cleric NPC (who is at his heart a coward) is trapped and can't bypass the creature. He enlists the party to help, who think "man, this guy is a real...

Defeating a Great Wyrm Force Dragon

IMO Great Wyrms sit somewhere below greater gods in the food chain. That means that even lesser gods aren't guaranteed to take them out. I know that in my game I can't really envision a scenario where a party could successfully destroy one. Defeat? maybe. Kill? probably not (but never say...

Using the rules: how do you handle those hard to reach scenarios?

Two words: DM's Fiat Simply put, if it progresses the adventure/story/game it's my prerogative as the DM to do whatever I want, regardless of RAW. Edit: Players that feel "railroaded", etc. don't last long in our games. It's a ROLE playing game, not a RULE playing game. Most of the folks I...

am i the jerk or is my friend?

Reminds me of a game we were in and a player did something that was way above the party ECL. The DM asked "how are you doing that". Player says "it's a spell like ability". DM says "OK, how do you have that". Player says "it's a spell like ability". This went on and on with the player repeating...

    Falling Damage and Stoneskin

Eh, in this case the groups I'm in tend to ask "is it physical damage, if yes then damage reduction applies". So being pelted by ice storm? Yep. Falling? Yep. It's a simple delineation and tends to keep the game as what we want it to be, namely a role playing game not an exercise in dissecting...
