    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

Re: psionics: I thought Hyperconscious was a very good 3PP for psionics, especially for what it did for the soulknife. There’s also a PrCl that combines elements of the SK & PsyWar. Also, Dragon#348 has a bunch of mindblade feats, most of which are cool and/or good...

    AI/LLMs Plagiarism vs. Inspiration

You can be done if you wish. That said- since you responded to an earlier, unedited version of my post- I will reassert that there is an accounting shell game going on. In the post-edit version*, I included inference as one of 3 major costs Anthropic is incurring, alongside R&D and training...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Don’t get the JD yourself- hire hungry lawyers- you’ll skip 3+ years of hassle. Heck, endow a law clinic at some school so that JDs to be and freshly minted lawyers could get some guided trial work, without having to worry about making a profit.

Friday Fun: Let's Share Weird NPC Ideas

TBH, I’ve probably come up with more unusual PCs than NPCs, but I still have some notable ones, like: 1) in my Champions:1900 supers campaign, the “Iron Man” homage using a boiler-powered hydraulic armored suit with twin flamethrowers got audible gasps. 1a) same campaign world (using M&M...

    Homebrew A Hardboiled Setting

Zone of Truth is still problematic, depending on the questions asked. If you ask Legbreaker Bob “Did you kill Victor Timm?” in a ZoT, “No.” could be the answer. If, OTOH, you ask Legbreaker Bob “Who did you kill?”, the answer may be a list- and #7 may surprise you!

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

As an army brat, our family had to get accustomed to prepping our house for sale, sometimes on short notice. Fix the obvious problems & use neutral paints. If there’s something about the house that could be considered a selling point, take the time & money to showcase it. The last house we...

    AI/LLMs Plagiarism vs. Inspiration

Except I’m not wrong. AFAIK, all of Anthropic’s products are AI, and Amodei is claiming their products are profitable, but Anthropic is operating billions of dollars in the red. That doesn’t make sense. Some of the most often cited reasons why Anthropic is in the red is because of the costs...

    AI/LLMs Plagiarism vs. Inspiration

(Emphasis mine.) HERO, GURPS and a bunch of other systems allow for this kind of customization. Not saying you’re copying them- they all take different approaches- just saying the idea of taking this approach itself goes back 40 years so. AFAIK, we don’t remove posts for self-promotion unless...

    AI/LLMs Plagiarism vs. Inspiration

To clarify further: 1) Amodei is claiming that Anthropic’s products are profitable when viewed individually on their P&L statements. 2) all of Anthropic’s products (that I know of) involve AI 3) Anthropic is currently operating in the red 4) it’s accounting shenanigans to assert your...

    AI/LLMs Plagiarism vs. Inspiration

To clarify, I don’t trust the claims that someone with a vested interest in having AI be profitable saying that his actually is on his books. I’d have more faith in a similar claim from someone doing an independent financial analysis.

    AI/LLMs Plagiarism vs. Inspiration

Nope. Texas currently has 400 AI data centers (#1 nationwide) with estimates of another 100-140 under construction.

    AI/LLMs Plagiarism vs. Inspiration

Let’s just say I view that with the same critical eye as when I look at certain dubious financial ecosystems like “Hollywood Accounting”, “supply-side economics”, “sub-prime lending” and others I was formally educated about in my economics, law & MBA programs.

    Homebrew A Hardboiled Setting

Forgot about those! 😂 My thoughts are less about what you can make fit and more about much conceptual space there is for a wide variety of fantasy classes in a hardboiled/noir urban setting, and how much work you’d have to do as a DM to accommodate players who design PCs that are inconsistent...
