Into the Halls of Sartor

For some reason, the Timberlands I ordered Friday 13 (Feb) from Champs had a label generated, but apparently haven’t been received at FedEx.

I’ve contacted them via their AI assistant ( 😡 ) which told me it was outside of business hours, and I’ll be contacted tomorrow.

What is the point of hiding behind a 24/7 AI assistant that can’t even check an order’s status and can only hand off to a live person who will not be available until regular business hours?

Why couldn’t I have just been given an email or a phone number to leave my message with directly?🤬🤬🤬

When an email didn’t arrive by Friday afternoon, I tracked down Champs’ CustServ phone#.

To their credit, they DID say my order was lost in transit and they’d be expediting a replacement. So, we’ll see what happens in the next couple of days.

But as a whole, I’m not exactly a fan of Champs, so far.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

TL; DR: Trump apparently has an obsession with Florsheim dress shoes, and has been ordering them for his cabinet members. At least 2 have been given shoes that are clearly oversized…and they’re still wearing them.

FOMO? Masculinity foibles? Regardless, the end result is fashion faux pas.

UPDATE: They DID arrive, and in the correct size & color. So all is basically good.

I’ve seen this! I’m a big fan of Derek Guy through his blog and Bluesky posts and he’s been posting about this.

It’s such a weird thing. These are people who can certainly afford to dress well. You’d think tailoring would be something they’d want.

The political element looms large here, I think.

But Florsheim? I have 3 pairs of their dress shoes, and they’re still wearing fit me well. They’re NOT what I’d expect high-flying American politicians or the wealthy POTUS to wear. At best, they’re a decent but declining middle-tier brand. (See also Johnston Murphy.)

Beyond that, Allen Edmonds (also waning) had been the shoe of American presidents from Reagan to George W.

I’m not surprised about the brand on the shoes (no shade on Florsheim from me either) but I’m just saying - if I had that kind of money it would be bespoke tailoring all the way. I would kill to have a few suits from somewhere like Drakes.
