Into the Halls of Sartor

In other news…

The rose gold Festina watch my Mom gave me years ago has died the death. The watch repairer opened it up, and it was beyond repair. Hell, one of the subsections on the face under the crystal just…detached.

So today I replaced it with a rose gold Citizen. Macy’s were having a 30% off sale on Citizen & Bullova watches.

I wasn’t PLANNING on this- the only watch I’ve been yearning for for the past several years is a Hamilton Ventura- but the Festina occupied kind of a special spot in my wardrobe.

Almost bought another watch today. It was a rectangular Bullova with a blue face. It is being discontinued, apparently, so it was over $100 off.

When I tried it on, I could understand why it was being discontinued. Its metal strap was good looking- it really worked well with the watch’s overall aesthetics- but its clasp release was on the inside surface of the band. You’d slide your finger between the band and your wrist to trigger the release.

This means it would be very difficult for a pickpocket to remove it without getting noticed. (I’m presuming that was part or the intention behind the design.)

The problem is that I prefer my watch bands on the snug side. That means they don’t rotate or slide up & down my forearm much. But the Bullova’s strap would have required me to have it adjusted to a looser fit than I prefer.
