I had the same idea I just finished picking up a bunch of GURPS books to play some fantasy. I decided not to follow D&D 4 and look into other systems. I'm really excited to start reading my books.

I Love 2e! I love 2e. It's what I play to this day. I love specialty priests, specialist wizards, druids, fighters, some kits. It lets us play the game we want. Mostly through familiarity but also it lets us focus on the game and not on what our characters can do.

I voted 4e because it has fixed a lot of the negatives I had with earlier editions. That said my honorable mention is Moldvay/Cook BX because it was my first. 2nd runner up is 2e because we gamed the heck out of that game for it's entire run until 3e came out.

I agree about DDI. There is some guaranteed revenue IF, big IF, they get it to work. I just don't know at this point though.
