    D&D General Have Some Class

Flavor and concept wise, the Binder from 3E's Tome of Magic. I love it when an edition gets experimental in its late stages and the binder had gobs of flavor. I only played mine to about 5th, he was always kind of weak, and its probably best in small parties as it feels susceptible to stealing a...

D&D General Liquids in Bag of Holding or Portable Hole?

It doesn't say they're protected or padded, so I'd rule they spill. The bag is basically a huge trash bag bigger on the inside than outside. Bottles could break, same as anything put in a big sack. The portable hole makes a 10x10 pit/room, so I would rule it wouldn't spill while moved. The...

D&D General The joys of playing a PC with low stats

Fort Reflex and Will all the way. The secondary saves as is aren't remotely balanced. I think there's like 5 Int saves in the entire game. Ditch em!

D&D General The joys of playing a PC with low stats

Except it doesn't really. How do you determine what a 6 vs 9 Int vs 10 character could solve? That's sort of like saying "use your judgment on when you think you would go down". I just like for social stats to have teeth. That said, low sanity Cthulhu characters are way more fun. We rolled...

D&D General The joys of playing a PC with low stats

I somewhat agree, but you buried the lede a bit. Effectively, you didn't have a low stat. You had a character trait, not much different from someone else having a reckless character. There's a big difference between a 6 Intelligence at a table where your actual Intelligence score doesn't really...

D&D (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

I want similar to 2nd edition psionicist. The UA mystic actually came close, and its a shame they canned it. In 5E, this would look like selecting domains of thematically linked powers (disciplines), which open up thematically linked choices of at-will abilities (devotions) and more powerful...

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

I run 5E set in Golarion, and goblins are my favorite to portray, and the bulk of my NPC's don't have stats... so I guess Goblin? I find it more concerning how in 5E a species has rules but virtually no fluff. They've doubled down so hard on "all people are all the same, with no species...

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

It's a second level spell, not Dominate Person. It should be relatively weak. It's a pumped up Persuade, just like Knock is super Slight of Hand/Thieve's Tools.

D&D (2024) WotC Unveils Dragon Delves' Eclectic Art Styles

I'm digging the various styles, from the whimsical gold dragon, to old school B/W, realistic, and definitely the blacklight ones. Variety is nice, so even if one style isnt your jam, something else might be. I'm definitely going to pick it up as I want to encourage them to make more themed...

    D&D General Limiting Utility Cantrips

That also makes me do a judgment call on what it can do. I'm fine ruling more liberally on a temporary solution. I'd honestly be more fine making it a 1st level spell and allowing it to do more, and have a casting time of 1 action.

    D&D General Limiting Utility Cantrips

I give the cleric and bard poker chips for guidance/bardic inspiration as well as other color chips for heroic inspiration. It helps them remember to actually use them. Ditching concentration also stops the warlock from stressing about Hex maintenance or cleric with Enhanced Ability. So it's...

    D&D General Limiting Utility Cantrips

Mending is the only one I limit, mostly for worldbuilding purposes (Micah Sweet would be proud!). I have the magic unravel after 24-hours, restoring it to the original state. I don't sweat a lot of world building implications, but instantaneous and permanent fixing of broken items really does...

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

Both. I have an online only game with friends spread out over the country and an in person game with local friends that sometimes meets online.

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

DDB has consistently sucked at being anything other than A) a marketplace and B) a character builder that is very unfriendly to house rules. It's a bad product that has remained in an embarassing state for years, and a small amount of development would go a long way. The campaign section is a...

D&D (2024) Monster Manual 2025: Is Multiattack order prescriptive now?

Sure, tight writing is how you get the current dual wielding rules, which allow dual wielding with a shield. Or how a guy carrying a torch isn't visible through darkness because darkness obscures vision. Or all the other instances, like this very thread, where we're left to divining tea leaves...

D&D (2024) Monster Manual 2025: Is Multiattack order prescriptive now?

It's really not a mystery. WOTC doesnt value consistency and tight writing. The gist of 5E is "Look, you're going to run it how you want to run it, so why bother?" Their gravitation towards "naturalistic" writing lets people do what they want and point to vague text justifying it. Which is...

    D&D (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

On that's neat! I just had the PF2 PDF of the PF2 starter (which is quite good). I've taught a fair amount of kids/new players, I give each of them a set of these. https://critgames.com/shop/dice/color-coded-polyhedral-dice-five-sets/ They have to get their own crown royal bag though.

    D&D (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

For the life of me, I don't understand why starter sets don't come with dice with a different color for each die. D8's and D10's look a lot alike for new players. Its much easier to go "roll the D8, the blue one".
