    D&D 5E (2014) Solasta 2 Announced!!!

I rather like the segment where you travel with the ancient elf and she goes around complaining about how awful everything is and you’re all a bunch of primitive idiots.

Technically if you want to do the canon playthrough you should go 1/3 of the way through XCOM and then lose, before starting XCOM2. So that saves some time.

Critical Role Tell me the selling points of Tal'Dorei / Wildemount, without mentioning Critical Role, Matt Mercer, etc.

Folks on this forum have so much knowledge of obscure (or just old) RPG settings that they have a distorted idea of what “generic” is. And also some of them don’t know the difference between derivative and generic.

How does it hold up? I’ve always wanted to try it; I’m a big fan of Age of Wonders 1, which I believe was inspired by MoM. However, I find older games pretty user-unfriendly, usually with garbage UI - at least the ones I didn’t play as a lad (Which are perfect and unimpeachable). I heard there...

Wonderful game to be addicted to. I rather prefer the B-movie atmosphere in the first of the modern XCOMs, but the gameplay is definitely better in the second. I do miss the MECs, though.

[Apple+] Slow Horses TV Series (Spoilers)

The end of season 3 was where I reached this point, with the assault on the facility feeling like it was from a proper action movie. I still enjoy it, but I prefer things when they’re a bit more grounded. He’s so wonderfully repellent!

Fantasy Stories That Don’t Romanticise the Past

I couldn’t disagree more. Jabbercrombie may depict kings and warriors and whatnot, but he is profoundly cynical about all of them (and wizards, and mythic quests, and war, and revenge) and in fact actively undermines the myth of the “glorious past” almost constantly.

My apologies splattercat (and numerous others)! That guy has such good taste in games (i.e. similar to mine) but I happen to find his nasal, grating voice (i.e. similar to mine) almost intolerable. I don’t think I could handle a splattercat LP, even if I could get past the spoileracity.

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on bonus action potions?

Indeed. Especially the poor, ever-neglected rogue.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The original definitely a Fiat knockoff, though the guts were somewhat different. I was thinking more of the station wagon though; some models are extremely brick-like. In any case, the Lada is more communist, and therefore gets extra brutalist points, regardless of which effete capitalist...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The brutalist car was mastered in the 70s, and it was called the Lada. The Tesla is a pale imitation of the bricklike original.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

If said in the right tone and with the right emphasis, I can see the former making sense. “I could care less (but not very much).” Though I also prefer the latter. Knowledge of modern slang has left me incapable of enjoying DeBussy any more, lest I be overcome by the irresistible urge to make...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Impressive! Not sure if I’m jealous or not. I’m down to one cup a day thanks to my stupid blood pressure. But at least I don’t get the morning headaches anymore.

Indeed. I have to watch games I’ve just played; or games I don’t want to play. If it’s new and interesting then I want to play it now, or if it’s one I know and they’re playing particularly badly I need to have a go to show them (telepathically, presumably) how it’s done.

Look Granny, what I do in the privacy of my own home is my own business, thank you very much!

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

My grandfather used to call them “Chinese Gooseberries”, which I guess was the name before the war. They aren’t even gooseberries, though they are indeed from China originally.

    Shemeska's Planescape Storyhour - (Updated 27July2025)

Quoting the greats! I do hope she gets to give him a little wave, in the end.

How Do You Like Your Steak?

Medium rare-medium, though I’ll (mostly) happily eat medium-well if that’s what comes out of the kitchen.

Finally saw Tenet (and Nolan films ranked)

I really liked The Dark Knight the first time through. But on a rewatch found I was riveted every time Ledger was on screen, and was just waiting for him to come back whenever he wasn’t: he’s absolutely magnetic. The rest of it is solid, for a superhero film anyhow, but he’s the only thing that...
