Love the Game vs. Hate the Greed?

QUOTED FOR TRUTH (i.e. it doesn't make sense).

    ENWorld Edition Bias

I too perceived a strong pro-4E aura here. It was so unbearable that it actually drove me away ("plenty of other forums, no need to waste time" and so on). I have recently started to check the posts here a bit more seriously (as opposed to the "oh, let's just check enworld for a few seconds, on...

You are chosen to play leader, what class will you take?

Wizards would indeed fit the role of the leader. But they aren't the only ones capable of leading. Of the classes that are in this poll, the warlord should get to lead. A successful warlord MUST be a good leader, since being a warlord presupposes having a group of people (an army most likely)...

Have you ever refused to come back from the dead?

Not really... A good character that has died might refuse to come back to the mortal world after a glimpse of the glorious life that awaits "beyond the barrier".

I'm stocked for life! (But what if no one cares?)

Prior to the advent of 3E, things like that were pretty straightforward: new edition out, majority of players jumps on immediately, some hold out for longer but eventually swith over too, leaving only a fraction of die-hard fans sticking to the old stuff. Thing is, now everything depends on...

    Ravenloft 3.5: yea or nay

The setting is really interesting, but I'm afraid I can't offer any advice about the 3.X books, as I haven't read them. However, the fact that White Wolf is vastly experienced in settings of that sort makes me optimistic. If you do get the books, I'd recommend you try and get hold of some old...

For fans of the planes: which combination of ruleset and books do you use for planar adventures?

New "What sort of RPG player are you?" poll (this one by Charles Ryan)

Well, I knew I was in for the story, plot, and characters. Just surprised at how high I scored on the first two attributes, though! 95 percent is quite high! Character Player - 95% Storyteller - 95% Casual Gamer - 55% Tactician - 45% Specialist - 30% Weekend Warrior - 15% Power Gamer - 0%

Planar Handbook and Manual of the Planes

The Manual of the Planes is indeed one of the best 3E books I've seen. I cannot compare it to Planar Handbook, however, since I don't buy 3.X books anymore (I have only one 3.5 book, and that is the Player's Handbook). I've observed that many posters consider the crunch outdated. Isn't 3.0...

What would have to be done to 3.5 D&D if you removed skills and feats?

I guess you'd have to convert some of the feats into class abilities. As for skills, I really don't know... If that's what you want to do, why don't you play an appropriately tweaked vesrion of AD&D (e.g. 2nd edition with some concepts of 3E that you particularly like integrated into it)?

AD&D Saving Throws in 3rd Edition

QFT Also QFT. Like other posters said, this sort of chance will have major repercussions. Seamingly simple chances may not seem so simple if you think about the amount of work you may have to do to accommodate the changes. For example, substituting Attack Bonus with THAC0 may look...

So how many of you made the switch?

Switched from 2E to 3.0 when it came out, and then back to 2E.

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

THIS time, however, I do have a feeling it won't go as smoothly as before, because this time people who don't want to change will have a really viable alternative, the OGL being irrevokable and such. I don't either, but the percentage of people who will refuse to convert to 4E (or convert and...

Loooong Campaigns...How Do You Do It?

If too much experience is the problem, why don't you cut back a bit? Say, instead of giving the full amount, give a fraction (e.g. half or 1/3), but be honest with the players right from the beginning. I've seen this work miracles. Also, restore story-based XP awards to their pre-3E prominence

Can a game be "Compatible with the Wizards of the Coast SRD?"

Non-lawyerly opinion: In you say "compatible with the 3rd edition of the most popular RPG" you avoid mentioning your primary competitor by name. May or may not have something to do with it!

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

It seems to me that people who prefer OOP now will continue to do so in the future. I don't think that 4E will move any closer to the philosophy of pre-3E so as to satisfy them. In fact I am quite pessimistic about it, but that is the subject of another thread. With regard to 3E now: Unless a...

I can't help but wonder--how many AD&D 1e players ARE there out there?

Although I don't currently participate in any AD&D 2E games either as player or DM, if I were to DM a campaign I would definitely choose AD&D 2E. Similarly, I'd gladly take part in a 2nd edition campaign as a player. Thus, I consider myself a "2nd edition person". I might even check out...

    Morrowind: Best Computer RPG. Ever.

Morrowind was an ok game. However, if we are to decide what the best RPG is, I'm gonna vote for Planescape: Torment. The only game I've played that gives you a sense that it is NOT all about killing things. Great setting, great story, great characters. I remember trying to play Baldur's Gate 2...

Attack of Opportunity -- does it deserve to survive to v.4?

Indeed they are; they are a good compromise between the fluidity of battle (which, by definition, cannot be captured) and the rigidity of a turn-based system.
