    Star Wars prequel questions

It's generally wise not to think too hard about Star Wars. Deep analysis generates more SAN loss than a Call of Cthulhu campaign.

D&D General Adventurers a distasteful necessity

Adventurers are essential because they provide a principal means of wealth redistribution. Whether the wealth is taken from the hoard of a dragon, recovered from ancient ruins, heisted from a wealthy merchant by a gang of thieves, or seized in the overthrow of a local tyrant, adventurers are...

D&D General Mechanics of starting a combat & ending a combat

D&D needs the return of B/X's reaction rolls and morale. Not every encounter with potential hostiles should begin with "roll for initiative" nor should every fight be to the death.

Trailer The Death of Robin Hood

What medications or therapies do you recommend? I tried the Citizen Kane cleanse, but now I can't watch anything that doesn't end in ... Rosebud.

Trailer The Death of Robin Hood

Yeah, I don't care what the critics think; I really enjoy the animated Robin Hood. I couldn't explain why for a long time, but I stumbled across a video that captures it perfectly: If accurate, the movie is very underrated. But then I also liked Costner's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (that...

Word for Word. Love that "pause your ponies" is short halfling-speak for "hold your horses." Rules Q: would Blasphemy work inside a Beholder's central eye anti-magic ray?

    What's the best food?

Red food. // For my last meal I choose chicken fajitas, with a side of tortilla chips & guac, washed down with a nice margarita.

    That's SIR Idris Elba

Ah, I've seen a couple of those. He must be one of those talented actors who disappears into each role, rather than essentially playing the same character over and over.

    That's SIR Idris Elba

And my axe! Congrats to him. I don't know who he is -- oh, I've probably seen his work I guess, but don't recognize the name -- but sounds like a worthy award.

What kinds of games do you like, and why?

Good ones. /s I'll try anything. I prefer games with strong themes, especially if themes are reflected well in the mechanics. Single player solitaire in a multi-player game, pasted-on-theme, and/or no meaningful choices are right out. I do prefer fantasy and sci-fi themes to "mundane" ones. In...

Trailer The Odyssey | Official Trailer

California Public School grad here. Iliad and Odyssey were required reading in my high school honors English. We learned Greek myths in elementary school though. Admittedly, that was last century .... typing that makes me feel old.

When and where did you learn about Greek/roman and others mythology?

Certainly in early elementary school. I don't recall the reason, exactly -- we got told a lot of Greek myths. Enough that when Clash of the Titans was released, we were all excited because we knew the stories it was based on. D&D added to, but it was already familiar territory. The Iliad and...

    Whamageddon (Last) Christmas

I survived. Close at the end; had to run out to a bakery and they were playing Christmas music. Luckily it was "I'm Getting Nuttin' For Christmas" and I beat a hasty retreat before the song changed. A Happy Non-Specific Winter Solstice Festival to you all!

The Linear Guild is Back! (OOTS #1337)

I read Dim Sun today -- great stuff! Very reminiscent of early OOTS, and funny both for the Dark Sun jokes as well as the cross-references to normal OOTS. Shame he can't continue it, but it was fun for a one-shot. If you like OOTS, pick it up!
