    Cold Weather Outfits

The Frostburn Supplement Book states that for the temperatures you listed a protection level of 1 is needed to be completely fine and protected. A standard character wihtout special abilities, resistances etc. has a protection level of 0. Cold Weather Outfit grants a +1 equipment modifier to the...

    How fast do you fall?

I messed up in my previous posts.Sorry. The guy I mentioned tried to do the jump but failed. Anyway, you might want to check out the following site . It is about a woman who will try to do a jump from 40,000 meters height. Pretty interesting stuff. Mach 1.3 is supposed to be her top speed...

    How fast do you fall?

Well, as terminal velocity is very dependant on air density, one can or will fall faster in "thin air" The higher up you are, the thinner the air gets, thus the faster you fall. I have edited my previous post and included a graph that shows the velocity the guy who dropped from 40000 meters...

    How fast do you fall?

mmu1 got it quite accurate. Terminal velocity is around 120 mph if one tries to achieve maximum air resistance. As air resistance is also a function of air density it heavily depends on the altitude you drop from. You can assume the 120 mph correct for the first 15000 feet above sea level. At...

Craft (alchemy) now useless for identifying potions?

It is now done with Spellcraft. DC 25 to identify a single potion. No retry.

When a person provides cover for ranged attacks

I can't find the rule in the 3.5 PHB at the moment but in 3.0 the 33 would have been compared to the cover's AC doing damage. If the 33 would not be enough to hit only because the coverring persons DEX-mod, the covering person could choose to "evade" the shot and the original target would have...

    [3.0] Using a higher-level spell slot

Yes it is possible. See the PHB page 148, left column " Choosing a spell - Spell Slots" Remeber... as you already said. A spell memorized in a higher level slot is in all regards handled like a spell of its original level. DCs, Effects, Range etc. etc. don't change. In order to change these...

    mighty composite huge bow

The bow was created using the rules for weapon increases/ decreases in the Savage Species Book. It's not listed in any table (at least I know of none) like standard weapons. Basically any creature can use weapons that are up to one size category bigger than the creature itself. So for a huge...

    mighty composite huge bow

From the Savage Species Book (p. 42, 43): Mighty Composite Longbow (large) to Mighty Composite Longbow (huge) Damage: 1d8 --> 2d6 Weight: 3 lbs. --> 4.5 lbs. Cost: +50% Rangeincrement: 110 ft. --> 137,5 ft. max. Mighty: +4 --> ??? (but I guess +8) Basically... per size category up you have...

    Turning, fear, and running away.

They will keep their normal initiative an flee when it's their turn. After all if you are confused you "act confused" when it's your turn. When you are charmed, you "act charmed" on your turn. Any penalties for being feared, frightened, panicked, etc. apply instantly of course. I don't have...

    Clerics not needing to rest?

Now what about a cleric who prays at dusk for his spells. If I understand the rule correct, then the cleric in question recieves his spells every evening at dusk, provided he is praying. No matter if he was resting or adventuring before his prayers. Still there is a recent casting limit... PHB...

    Mounts and mounted combat

A fighter an foot moves 20ft. to his target and makes a single attack with his sword. He can only make a single attack since he moved before his attack. This same fighter sitting on a horse moves 20ft. to his target an can do a full attack action? Is that what you're saying kreynolds?

    Mounts and mounted combat

Range does matter. Rangeincrements! To stay with the Dagger having a 10ft. increment it can make a whole lot of a difference how far your mount moves. It is clear that could throw 4 Daggers while your mount is moving. The fact that the PHB says the attack takes place after half of the mounts...

    Raise Dead: Loosing Spell Slots

You roll for every single spellslot but... the loss is not permanent and I guess that was how you understood the loss. A wizard just "forgets" his memorized spells and a sorcerer looses the slot(s) for that single day. Everything is back to normal (except for the level loss) after a good rest.

    Altering the scale.

Sounds not too bad an idea but at first glance I see two problems. The first being: Even if the Bob the farmer is a 20th level commoner/ expert... it is in fact no real difference to a level 1 or 2 commoner. The Players will still be much, much more powerful than Bob. As long as the majority of...

Familiar + Con Enlargement Bonus Q

From the D&D FAQ: The FAQ implies that only permanent increases in CON affect the familiars hitpoints and temporary hitpoints don't count at all. PHB, page 130, top right: Still... an increase in hitpoints due to an increase in CON are not temporary hitpoints. They are temporary in the...

    I got your back....no wait....

With "only" four enemies like you have given the example it would maybe be even better not to stand back to back. Just like you said, to get into flanking positions themselves. But.. imagine a larger number of foes. Back to back may save you from being ganged up and there is a huge difference...
