Raise Dead: Loosing Spell Slots

As usual, when looking up an answer for another question, I come up with another question. I was reading Raise Dead, and specifically these sentences confused me:

"A character with spellcasting capacity (such as a sorcerer) has a 50% chance of losing any given spell slot, in addition to losing spell slots for losing a level"

Now, does this mean we take any of the remaining spell slots left over after the level loss and randomly select one to roll for loss against, or do we roll for loss against every remaining spell slot? This could be potentally devastating on a bad dice day.

What does everyone think? It is not in the wotc FAQ, that I can find.

You roll for every single spellslot but... the loss is not permanent and I guess that was how you understood the loss.
A wizard just "forgets" his memorized spells and a sorcerer looses the slot(s) for that single day. Everything is back to normal (except for the level loss) after a good rest.

Vinyafod, I think it is worse than you think. The sentence before the one I posted already wipes out known spells half of the time. I really think this is moi bad for spellcasters.

Quote from the 2nd printing PHB:

"A [sorcerer] has a 50% chance of losing any given unused spell slot as if it had been used to cast a spell, in addition to losing spell slots for losing a level."

That should clear up any ambiguities.
