But nothing in the OGL is WotC’s IP! It‘s not a novel. Even if I published a word for word copy of the OGL and sold it—none of that text is WotC’s, and it’s perfectly legal.

As does the argument that hate speech is running so rampant in gaming that we need WotC to swoop in and save us all.

Just wondering — what are basing this assertion on? Is there a legal precedent? Because it doesn’t make sense to me that it’s legal to use one thing from the OGL but if you use many things, it stops being legal.

The OGL 1.0a is not a license to use D&D IP. A CRPG with Armor Class, hp, Clerics, and hundreds of other things that are not owned by WotC is perfectly legal. Or was until WotC and Hasbro decided that it wasn’t, which is exactly the problem.

We finished CoS a year or so ago, and now I’m running the same group through a home brewed sequel using some 2e and 3PP content. Currently running Tyrrany of Dragons with a different group. After that, looking forward to running Storm King, or Frostmaiden.

But I don’t hate the game. Hasbro/WotC have recently proven themselves to be unworthy stewards of the game’scurrent iteration, so I can easily avoid their work, and still play the game I love.
