    True, true. :D

    Help me understand OSRIC

Thanks for AD&D3. This is one sweet game.
  3. The Highway Man

    I love AD&D

I get where you're going with this, delver. I think it really depends on what the DM, in particular, is searching for. If the DM wants a clear "adventure path" of sorts, your suggestion N1/A1-3/G1-3 absolutely makes sense. If the DM wants a loose frame on which to build his own...

What Did You Want Fourth Edition to be Like?

Yes indeed, in an in-your-face, does not contribute to the thread beyond the obvious provocations kind of way, you made your mark in here. Be proud... I guess. Let's not call out other posters, please. ~ Piratecat

    Best Gazetteers for BECM D&D

I must point out that I am an Old Boy through and through. This kind of specific feedback is what I am looking for. Please, be as specific as you can. That will help me make a choice in the future. If you actually haven't Read/Played GAZ beyond the first... please shut the f. up.

    Best Gazetteers for BECM D&D

Hi there everybody. I have the ultimate fondest memories of GAZ1 - The Grand Duchy of Karameikos. One of the best setting supplements of any edition combined. I also own GAZ11 - Republic of Darokin. Now, here's my question: what Gazetteers of the Known World should I purchase next?

Star Wars - SAGA vs. Revised

Cool! Like I said, there's a level of abstraction one has to "get" before enjoying Saga to its fullest (like say... realizing that you can make a tech character out of a Smuggler. That the mechanical elements are abstract in the first place, if you see what I mean), but once you "get" it (which...

Is high randomness good for an RPG?

    LOL Sig worthy.

What Did You Want Fourth Edition to be Like?

Hi Negflar! Making the sweet spot mathematically present at every level can be grossly represented by me playing a wizard. I will launch a magic missile at a zombie at low levels, or a meteor swarm at a multiverse entity at high levels, but basically, mechanically, I will still roll d20 to...

Is high randomness good for an RPG?

I think you are rolling way too many things into a single concept/question, Bullgrit. Your examples are significantly different from each other, and it muddies the meaning of what you're asking. "High randomness" as you call it can be great in some circumstances and horrible at others...

What Did You Want Fourth Edition to be Like?

I'm... sort of used to that at this point. :D If anything, I guess I would have liked 4e to be much like C&C, but with a Skill system a bit more developed/back in, the same XP Chart for every character class (and thus a slightly more overt balance between them), a cleaned up feat selection, a...

What Did You Want Fourth Edition to be Like?

I agree with RC. If anything, I think 4e is too focused, too narrow in its definition of the game and the kind of entertainment it wants to bring. Too much emphasis on game balance, too much emphasis on making every level the "sweet spot", too much emphasis on making all characters based on...

Star Wars - SAGA vs. Revised

I liked Revised, but since I tasted Saga, I wouldn't be able to go back. It's just a lot easier to play and a lot more fun when you "get" the level of abstraction of the game's design. It'll be much easier for your son to get into.

Forked Thread: Games that are good for lone wolves (Was 4E Consequences: )

This is the concept of team work implied by the Dungeon set up that really makes D&D not particularly appropriate for lone wolves games. The more the particular edition's design rests on the notion that character classes are complementary in a dungeon environment, the less convenient LW games...

My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

    The Impasse

I think there's some blame on all sides as far as WotC's behavior is concerned. Some people will deliberately search for any possible occasion to bash them, and others will hunt down all threads criticizing them to counter everything they can. In both cases, there is a blatant lack of...

Which of these old school modules are worth getting?

Not much to add in comparison to others' posts here, but since you ask for feedback on this, let me just say that I think all of them are worth getting. I would just put a caveat on X2 Castle Amber due to the goofiness of it all. If that too is your thing, then buy them all.

How many books did you buy after the three core books?

A Grand Total of Zero. I bought the core books, read them, and decided 4e wasn't for me.

    Piracy

Bought the three core books, read them, didn't like them. No 4e in my gaming diet, no piracy.

    Pathfinder vs. 3.5?

I think it goes down to personal inclinations as far as DMing is concerned. Some DMs want all the rules to be right there, in the book, and that's it. Their role is adjudication only. Other DMs love to bring their own vision to life through dozens of side books, houserules, input from the...
