D&D 5E How many times in an adventuring day does your party spellcaster cast a cantrip spell?

11-15 range seems about right - as others said, guidance with about everything. A few offensive cantrips thrown in too.

    D&D General Gen X D&D

There wouldn't be one for gen x because nobody remembers or cares gen x (somewhat) exists.

Just For Fun: Terrible but True Tag Lines for TTRPGs

OD&D--You're old and refuse to change, or a gaming hipster 1e AD&D--LoL good luck B/X D&D--mow the neighbor's lawn & buy an adventure module!

D&D General Why the resistance to D&D being a game?

    Edit--misunderstood OP's original intent, nvm!

D&D General Simulacrum and then True Polymorph

A wizard/archmage is a class, not a creature, so I would rule one cannot polymorph (or shapechange) into a wizard or any other class. Now a creature with innate spell casting abilities would be fine.

D&D General How to work with players who wont accept any setbacks/defeat?

Maybe off track a bit, but I do not see any correlation between generations of gamers and a preference for sandbox or rails. I guess I'm technically a somewhat older gamer having started back late 70s/early 80s, but looking at published adventures, many had rails BITD (A series in particular)...

D&D General D&D is like candy corn

Hot dog flavored candy corn is too close to being health food.

D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

With all the talk on feats--wasn't feat bloat one of the digs on 3.x? I like having feats as optional. I'm undecided on the whole short/long rest thing (well, lethality overall), and esp HP recovery (the dmg addresses this). I may try the whole slower healing route, but then that makes me...

D&D General Did You "Return" because of some Edition of D&D?

I left DnD (well, RPGs overall) about 1990 after a really nice 11-12 year run. Had a brief few year return @2013-2014 (a heavily home-brewed 2e game by a very gracious DM). Moved, now looking to start up some 5e at a nearby small-town library to help get younger folks into the game. I'm...

    D&D 5E Is 5e really that different?

I just got into 5e a few months ago (mostly gamed with AD&D 1e, B/X back in the day)--I was pleasantly surprised by it, I find it very versatile, as simple or complex as a group would wish to make it. I don't see what could be upsetting about the system. Maybe folks who were into the power...

New RPG Company Casting All Women for Genesys

how would you build a 'Duellist'?

Are you going more for theme/flavor? If so, I'd stay away from the Monk avenue--that requires intense focus etc, and about the only thing I'd imagine a swashbuckler/duelist type is focused on is getting into (and then out of) trouble.

    Monte on Logic in RPGs

Never going to have the Ultimate Perfect Ruleset For Everybody. Trying to codify the "fog of war," magic, heroic-physics-defying feats, and incorporate the real-world personalities of all involved (game designers, players, DMs, et al)...It's all about preference. Play what the group...

DM poll: How much damage would you let a nail-club do?

Normally I would allow 1d6, but in this instance I would have it inflict 1HP to the target, and 2HP to the wielder for the shame of naming a club. I keed, I keed...I'd go with club damage.

Review of Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG by Goodman Games

Outstanding review, thank you. This may drag me into the dang hobby shop to shell out some duckets for the first time in a million years.

    Iconic D&D Clerics (Blog)

The Iconic Cleric for me will always be the mace-bashing-armor-wearing-healer-guy, the dude every party needed, but nobody wanted to play (I'll only say we were young)...but then that is different from what I think ought to be...2E and 3.X had it about right.
