More pointing out that non D&D fames that are cousins to it are trending towards level 10 for support.
Not just Paizo.
Basically if you want a high level game run one yourself. If you dont want to do that find one yourself.
If you cant fulfill any of those requirements its not gonna happen.
Afaik they did as far back as PF1 iirc.
Might be the occasional one but yeah.
Bought the Shackled City few months back. Digesting it is difficult. Running .....
Makes sense.
A better D&D would arguably be 10 levels no dailies or other nova buttons.
B/X level 14. In power level its more 10-11 iirc.
I'll run you a hi level game sure. $25 per person per session. If you want it really well developed double that amount I'm spending 1-3 hours...
Ah gotcha.
Rephrase. If you play from low level it takes a long time IRL to get there.
If you start their you remember why you dont like getting there.
Another side effect is starting magic items. I'll handwave it an let PCs pick stuff that I expect high level PCs to have. +3 weapon...
I know how to do it. Its not worth the grind. I can do it but dont want to.
I could do it or run 4E but at that point I would want to be paid basically. It takes about an hour of prep per hour of play. If you really want to ace it more like 2.
My games 13. Last session is Sunday. Mein gott...
It would make it easier but doesn't solve the main problem. Real life time required to get there.
Then you get to level 13 and want to stop and probably should have stopped at 10 or 11.
We've done tgat in most of our high level games tbh. It still sucks.
Those games are often ones shots or fizzle out fast. Doesn't matter what edition. We made it to level 19 once in a monthy haul munchkin 2E game.
5E the extreme upper limit is 13-14. Combat takes to long, encounter...
I find 4E monster design best used when applied to 3.5, 5E or SWSE monsters.
Considering they rewrote the monster manual I wouldn't be holding it up as an example of good game design.
They essentially stretched level 3-10 over 30 levels, stuck everything on a treadmill and tried to hammer...
Never seen the Kwalish thing.
Didn't know much about barrier peaks for years. Early on we used what we had and no FLGS. 1993-95 roughly.
Essentially what we found in mates brothers closet. B2-4, X1, rules cyclopedia, and photocopied book etc.
