D&D 5E New Scroll Questions: Warrior Champion can use Scrolls? - Scrolls of reaction spells ?

I like the idea of a shield (physical, metal) with a slot in the back that can hold a Shield (scroll, paper) for reading quickly in case of magic missile. As it is a reaction spell, it can't require much speech - and therefore could be a very quick spell to read indeed. Plus it lets you have...

D&D 5E Which options for an EK bladesinger?

Personally, I'd take studded leather over mage armor because I feel like wearing some armor is more 'warrior wizard' than foregoing armor entirely - you say you prefer the other mental image, sooo... in that case, I'd go with the mage armor. It isn't a huge difference, really. I would...

D&D 5E Is the Tarrasque tough enough?

I agree, the lack of a ranged weapon in the statblock is an oversight which leaves the monster open to accusations of being a pushover in 'white room' scenarios. If I were running the monster, I would add a ranged attack. It would probably represent the monster sweeping around with its tail in...

D&D 5E Sell me on Wizards

That doesn't really follow, does it? Bounded accuracy means that every point of AC is commensurately more valuable because lower level creatures will be hitting you that much more often. With two handed fighting, you're pumping out damage at the expense of your defences; that's fine, but it...

    D&D 5E Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

Thieves tools are pretty much the only area where the functioning of the kit isn't already subsumed into a skill, though. There is no 'open lock' skill, only thieves tools. Compare/contrast Knowledge/nature or survival and herbalism, athletics and climbing kits... etc etc etc. There's plenty of...

    D&D 5E Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

RAW, having the medicine proficiency means you CAN use all applications of the medicine skill without the kit, though. So the analogy doesn't quite work. It is a clumsy system. I can see what they were trying to do but it may have been better to say that having proficiency in the skill...

D&D 5E Kung Fu Panda: How do wildshape and monk class abilities interact?

It'd probably depend on the tone I want at the table for that game. More gonzo/comedic? Sure, kung fu panda away! More serious/realistic/grim? Nope.

    D&D 5E Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

The main weirdness I've noticed is with tool proficiencies. People who are proficient in the skill gain no benefit from using tools associated with that skill (climbing, survival, medicine etc). This seems a little counter-intuitive to me, but adding a fix may go too far in the other direction.

    D&D 5E Initiative and Delay

I'm going to hold up my hands and admit that I only read to like... page 3 before the aggressive tone on all sides made me give up. I will chime in to add that it would literally never occur to me to restrict players to acting in a particular order just because initiative has been rolled. In...

D&D 5E No Armor: Addiing Proficiency to AC

With gunslingers especially, it feels to me like just having relatively low AC works fine; in westerns, the person who shoots first usually also shoots last, making initiative king and only mooks tend to miss if they have a clean shot. I don't think you need to add proficiency to AC there, but I...

D&D 5E Sell me on Wizards

If a creature has a high save, I tend to try and give some insight into that when the PCs target it. 'The nimble goblin dances out of the way of much of your fire and then laughs at you' or similar can go a long way to telling your players 'this ain't your best option' without straight up...

D&D 5E The Pendulum: Player Entitlement & DM Empowerment

The only way to solve these problems (if you take them as problems) is to discuss them with your group and get everyone on the same page. That said, I have literally never had to have that conversation in such an obvious way. Normally, as DM, I just discuss what my expectations for the campaign...

D&D 5E DM purposely gimping my Warlock

I wouldn't play with the DM if I felt his rules were unreasonable and his response was 'better reroll'. So I guess that's how it'd affect me.

D&D 5E Is it possible to have a good-aligned final boss in a good campaign?

In general, good just means putting the needs of others before your own, evil means putting your own needs before others - in 5e DnD at least. So yes. A powerful angel of a mostly-forgotten race or god may wish to return the world to the state it was when their power was dominant - by altering...

    D&D 5E I think a cantrip somewhat cripples the CR 16 marilith

I'd say she can parry, but if it hits, congratulations! Of course she's going to focus everything she has on destroying whatever just did that.

D&D 5E Give Sorcerers their due!

Have you actually played a sorcerer in a game, or are you raging in a vacuum? Because that would kind of suck.

D&D 5E Aboleth entry in 5e Monster Manual

I love the Aboleths! In fact, they're going to be front and center for my planned campaign (which I made a thread for, somewhere around here). I also think they tie in great to Warlocks with the eldritch horror theme; learning the ancient knowledge of the Aboleth pre-civilization could be a...

    D&D 5E Cleric Domains

Darkness/Shadow is a particularly glaring omission since they have included Light. I'm hopeful it will appear in the DMG since the stated reason for no Death domain is that it is 'evil' and therefore it isn't unreasonable to hope that other 'evil' domains will be included.

Thanks for putting this together! Very helpful.

D&D 5E Fair Undead encounter for 1st or 2nd level charterers

I think we also need to know where the charterers are planning to take these undead, and the means of locomotion intended to take them there. It is probably going to be easier to charter a small wagon and a couple of horses to the next village over - I'd rule that as a reasonable expectation...
