D&D 5E Can I handle two shields and cast spell with War Caster feat?

It is a close enough case that that a reasonable DM could rule either way. The rule says "weapons or a shield in one or both hands." "Weapons" is plural, "a shield" is singular. Since you can't wield multiple weapons in the same hand this suggests it is referring to what you are holding...

D&D General Matt Colville on adventure length

He is talking about LMoP though not the Stormwrack Isle, which is the current one. I would agree that LMoP isn't necessarily the best for totally new DMs, but WotC has addressed that by making a simpler starter adventure.

D&D General Matt Colville on adventure length

Short adventures certainly have upsides, and people are entitled to prefer them, but it is hard to deny "campaign" adventures have always been very popular. Saying "Long adventures are just objectively bad and are solely a money grab by WotC" just doesn't hold water. Even back in the TSR days...

D&D 5E Chris Perkins Lays Down Some Lore: Who Was Vecna?

Maybe the legendary Sword of Kas isn't what we have been picturing all these years?

    Drawing fantasy maps

J.P. Coovert has some good videos on fantasy mapmaking that you may find useful. Bob World Builder has one of his books displayed in the background of the linked video which I assume is a low-key shout out. I use Wonderdraft these days myself. Even if I had artistic talent (which I don't)...

D&D General First time play through help on Cragmaw Castle (and in general)

I haven't used it myself but it sounds like it gives the TV screen you are casting to the "player" view (not what is actually on the laptop screen) meaning it can't see through the fog of war until it is revealed. If not you can log into the room as a player (you can do it on the same...

D&D General First time play through help on Cragmaw Castle (and in general)

I would suggest using Owlbear Rodeo for this (it is free and pretty friendly for new users to pick up). You can have the map up on a laptop and cast it to a TV screen using these instructions. You can also use a wired setup if you don't have a monitor you can cast to. Here is a video of...

D&D (2024) In Interview with GamesRadar, Chris Perkins Discusses New Books

I think people want to see the books to judge for themselves, rather than believing marketing spin just because the corporate spokesperson said the same thing in X number of interviews.

D&D (2024) Deborah Ann Woll and Matt Mercer consulted on the 2024 DMG.

Well the original DMG was written by an insurance salesman. I am not sure anyone's vocation means that they don't have good ideas about gaming to contribute.

D&D General PCs jumping to other campaigns/DMs

This was very much my experience playing back in the '80s as well. The mind set was that you needed to "earn" levels and treasure, so if you wanted to join a higher level campaign you needed to provide a character at the appropriate level. Before organized play, people in our group would take...

D&D 5E There's A Platinum Vecna: Eve of Ruin From Beadle & Grimm This Summer

It is a platinum edition, limited production set - when it is sold out, no more will ever be produced. So what's actually in the box? FOMO. I think you are missing the whole point. It is a platinum edition, limited production set - when it is sold out, no more will ever be produced. So...

How Do You Decide What RPGs to Buy?

Most stuff these days (including Symbaroum) has a free "quick start" available either through the publisher website or DriveThruRPG. I have found these very helpful in getting a sense of whether a system is going to click for me or not. Admittedly, I am more focused on if I like the mechanics...

Shadow of the Weird Wizard Is Finally Here!

I backed this one on Kickstarter, and can confirm it is the "Player's Handbook" for the system. It does not have the bestiary, detailed information on the game world, or advice on running games, which will be in the GM's book. But it has the same page count and contains far more player options...

D&D (2024) Should Green Flame Blade and Booming Blade be in the new PHB?

Haven't you ever heard the expression "drop the boom" on someone? It's that. Caster: " If you move 5 feet or more I am going to drop the boom on you." Target: "What the heck does that even m...BOOM!" Caster: "Told ya."
