Another vote for DragonSlayer - especially given the author connection and you have the pdf/?. I got to play DS with Giuseppe, and enjoyed it - but we already have a bunch of OSE books, and didn't need more books, some in our circle own the HC, and i have the pdf. I would find Shadowdark too 5e...

I think the rules of D&D [any edition] fit better in a fantasy type setting, real Merlin, Conan, LoTR type stuff, the weapons and armor, magic.. artificer and warforge I usually ban from my games, doesn't fit my fantasy themes, now a plancescape world hopping setting, maybe spelljammer i'd use...

right.. the aim was 3-4 fights a long rest/burn resources, but with a short rest in between; those fights can be trivial. I started using time mechanics, you have 2 hours before something bad happens.. not all the time, but definitely can spice things up.. the party can maybe get one short rest...

2e saw it cut back & ultimately 3rd was the removal of mercenaries, hirelings, strongholds and domain play. 2e players, that wanted/used more likely had the 1e books anyway - 1e and 2e had some overlap in shelf space, I have 1e & 2e dmg's.. 1e is far superior in that content. 2e added Domain...

Interesting to see the data, and then the other thread with how many fights before a long rest.. doesn't seem like the PCs are challenged that much? Is letting people stay at 0 so upright party members can beat the mobs senseless still the general practice?
