    D&D 5E Telegraphing Attacks

Oh, that reminds me of the other suggestion I had, @Xeviat. In this case, you could have "winding up a tree-trunk to swing" be a bonus action that the ogre takes at the end of his turn. This would let the act of take a normal weaker attack on round 1 and begin his wind up. On round 2, he can...

    D&D 5E Telegraphing Attacks

It's an excellent idea. You can also have spells that activate immediately (so they can't be disrupted) but they don't have any negative effects until a round or two pass. Like, a spell called Satyrn's Gathering Storm could immediately fill a 20 foot radius with a roiling wind and light fog...

    D&D 5E Lighting Effects

I just consider the lightning conditions the "target" is in. No matter what lighting condition you're standing in, if you're looking at something in dim light, the dim light rule applies. If you're looking at something in bright light, the bright light rules apply.

Players choose what their PCs do . . .

If it causes mutiny, the table clearly picked the wrong game to play. I mean, Ovinomancer did start that post you quoted by assuming a game that involved that level of GM control. Apparently his assumptions aren't conversation killers . . . Oh. I see I'm still bitter about his last post.

D&D 5E What Does Your Magic Look Like

I don't have an answer. I'm at a point in the cycle of my gaming where the default flavor of the game is good enough and I just don't care to flesh it out, even if the default favor is non-existent. But still, your Bladesong description is awesome!

Players choose what their PCs do . . .

Blue lightning. Just out of the, uh, blue. Whenever the players strayed. Or got uppity. I remember my DM using that long ago, when my buddies and I first started playing D&D. And then recently, thanks to that, uh, recent thread here about druids and metal armor and all its talk about how 1e...

Players choose what their PCs do . . .

That's my first post in this thread and immediately you post this ugly comment without even trying to engage in conversation with me. I was even directly answering the OP original question with my post: "What do others think about who does, or should, get to establish the truth of descriptions...

Players choose what their PCs do . . .

Aye. I do not want my DM telling me my PC is smitten by the maiden's wink. It's my character, my decision whether that's the case. Ideally the DM should tell me that's the maiden's goal for the wink so I can be better informed and choose to buy in to what the DM is selling. Also Aye: Playing...

D&D General Turgenev's Friday Freebie Maps

Another excellent map I can readily slot into a corner of my megadungeon! I always like the mix of natural caverns and constructed rooms, and a river is always welcome. I'm also looking forward to seeing how the Eye of Shum'Morak turns out.

    D&D 5E Mearls' "Firing" tweet

Yeah that wasn't really necessary. I was just trying to show off my entirely pointless knowledge. I'm Canadian, but somehow recognize the shape of New England states.:erm:

    D&D 5E Mearls' "Firing" tweet

You left out 2 New England states. Connecticut and Rhode Island are huge. I'm sure they'd fill in the gaps.

    D&D 5E Consensus about two-weapon fighting?

I don't even agree that it needs fixing. I've played a fighter who did it, and it was fine. And then there's a ranger in my megadungeon campaign dual-wielding pistols and he's loving it. And that's despite the fact that he also has a rifle that gives him an extra attack as a bonus action.

D&D 5E How do you handle ranged attacks into melee?

Yeah, that's why I dropped that bit and say the fighter is hit . . . although I don't have that happen if another monster is providing the cover. So my rule is essentially "If you miss your target because of the cover, if it's another monster providing cover, or something else you actually want...

D&D 5E How do you handle ranged attacks into melee?

I mean, that would be awesome! I still haven't handed one out, but I've got a laser gun modeled on the Borderlands Presequel that targets every creature in a line out to the weapon's normal range. (I think I chickened out a little in the design and made that effect require expending a charge.)

D&D 5E How do you handle ranged attacks into melee?

Is one of the words I bolded a typo? (I'm guessing you meant miss instead of hit)

D&D 5E How do you handle ranged attacks into melee?

I use those cover rules you mention, plus the "Hitting Cover" bit from page 272 of the DMG except that I simplified that part a bit by striking out the last clause that reads: "If a creature is providing cover for the missed creature and the attack roll exceeds the AC of the covering creature...

    D&D 5E Attacking defenseless NPCs

I'm under the impression that Bawylie was picturing a scenario where the opponent has been pinned down or is otherwise rendered defenseless before the stinger-removal or limb-chopping could take place. That would be my requirement, anyway. I'm not worried about that being the go-to move...

D&D General If you could put D&D into any other non middle ages genre, what would it be?

D&D General If you could put D&D into any other non middle ages genre, what would it be?

I'd still totally give computers the mental ability scores. Like, at its most basic, its Intelligence would measure it's actual computing power, how well or quickly it does the stuff is supposed to do. This would be the computer's attack stat if it's in control of any turrets, or whatever...
