Another excellent map I can readily slot into a corner of my megadungeon! I always like the mix of natural caverns and constructed rooms, and a river is always welcome.

I'm also looking forward to seeing how the Eye of Shum'Morak turns out.

I'm a huge fan of dungeon/cavern combos so I'm surprised I haven't done more of them. I also like doing waterways/flooded dungeons so combing that with the dungeon/cavern combo is just icing on the cake. This week's Friday Freebie will be the next instalment of the Eye of Shum'Morak lair.

Cheers,
Tim

Here is the July 12th, 2019 Friday Freebie map. Click to enlarge.

Map Background:
* In the frozen plains of the far north lies the Eye of Shum'Morak. It is a large oval pit with a solid inner pillar. From above, the hole resembles an eye carved out of the earth. It is said that the wizard known as Shum'Morak had complete domination over the element of earth. He commanded the earth and it obeyed by forming his sanctum.
* The Eye of Shum’Morak penetrates nearly a full mile into the earth. The top half of this level has rooms showcasing Shum’Morak’s trophies and objets d’art (such as his exquisite oil paintings of himself in many poses, lifelike paintings of various outer plane locations, exotic pornographic paintings of various non-human species, etc.).
* The bottom half of the level consist of his private studies and magical workshops.
* Naturally a DM/GM can ignore all this and go with their own ideas.

Map Details:
* Areas 2, 3, 20, 22, and 24 have pillars.
* Areas 6, 9, 11, 12, 27, and 30 have wall basins.
* Area 14 has a pool of water.
* Area 20 has statues and a magical circle.
* Area 24 has a pentagram flanked by braziers.
* Area 25 has a thaumaturgic circle.
* Area 32 has a open shaft that runs the length of the Eye. A knotted rope hangs in the centre of the shaft. It allows quick access to the lower levels for those who can utilize it (via flight, feather fall, climbing, etc.).

I was working on a series of Old School Blue maps for a client and it gave me the urge to do a OSB dungeon of my own (since I haven't done one in ages). Here is the result. Click to enlarge.

Map Details:
* The scattered blue dots are rubble.
* Areas 10, 14, and 29 are false doors.

* Areas 12, 18, and 22 have pillars.
* Area 19 has a pentagram.
* Area 25 has a pool.
* Area 26 has a chute trap.

Here is the July 19th, 2019 Friday Freebie map. Click to enlarge.

Map Background:
* In the frozen plains of the far north lies the Eye of Shum’Morak. It is a large oval pit with a solid inner pillar. From above, the hole resembles an eye carved out of the earth. The Eye of Shum’Morak penetrates nearly a full mile into the earth.
* This level holds the various creatures he has collected for his private menagerie. Any beast too dangerous to keep alive is slaughtered and its parts are harvested for arcane purposes. One of his henchmen is a cleric who can cast Create Food and Water spells as needed when natural supplies run low.
* Naturally a DM/GM can ignore all this and go with their own ideas.

Map Details:
* Area 1 is the bottom of the Eye. It has cliff faces sloping upwards.
Areas 2, 3, 19, and 20 have statues. Shum'Morak is a very vain man and he loves having statues of himself throughout his lair.
* Area 3 has a dais.
* Areas 4 b), 5 d), 6 b), 7 b), 8 b), 9 d), 12 b), 13 b), 14 b), 15 b), 17 b), 18 b), 21 b), and 22 b) have wall basins.
* Areas 4 b), 5 b), 5 c), 5 d), 8 b), 9 b), 9 c), and 9 d) are holding cells for newly acquired creatures and/or captives.
* Areas 6 b) and 7 b) are used for large creatures (like griffons or hippogriffs).
* Area 14 b) has a heavy curtain in front of the cage. This cage is used to hold basilisks. Shum'Morak uses a special contraption with mirrors to view his captured basilisks without the danger of becoming petrified.
* Area 16 has a open shaft that runs the length of the Eye. A knotted rope hangs in the centre of the shaft. It allows quick access to the lower levels for those who can utilize it (via flight, feather fall, climbing, etc.).
* Area 17 b) has several unicorns.
* Area 18 b) has perytons.
* Area 24 is a large pool that if fed via an underground water source. The tunnels that feed fresh water into the pools are too small for the pool's occupants to use to escape. The pool is divided into three sections via bars/cages. These pools hold aquatic creatures (but not amphibious ones). Area 24 a) has giant sea creatures (such as giant sea eels). Area 24 b) is often stocked with various fish and is used as a food source. Area 24 b) is often used for new aquatic acquisitions.

Just a quick note that there won't be a Friday Freebie map this week. I'm going away for a short vacation visiting friends and family. The next Friday Freebie will be on August 2nd.

Cheers,
Tim

Turgenev, you are the best and this is the best and THANK YOU! I wish my life allowed me to spend enough time gaming that I could use even 25% of these amazing maps, but I greatly prefer having them and not needing them to the alternative. Huzzah!

Here is the August 2nd, 2019 Friday Freebie map. Click to enlarge.

Map Background:
* This is the final official level for the Eye of Shum'Morak.
* In the frozen plains of the far north lies the Eye of Shum’Morak. It is a large oval pit with a solid inner pillar. From above, the hole resembles an eye carved out of the earth. The Eye of Shum’Morak penetrates nearly a full mile into the earth.
* This level consists mostly of natural ice caverns. It has a large icy underground river that has ice floes on it. This level is the territory of the adult white dragon, Vlenserkontradix (also called Dragonclaw). He has been subdued by Shum’Morak and will obey his commands.
* The constructed chambers of the bottom part of the map have their own heat source (magical or geothermal?). The cold isn’t felt until one travels past the double doors of areas 9 and 10.
* Naturally a DM/GM can ignore all this and go with their own ideas.

Map Details:
* Areas 2 a), 2 b), 4 a), 4 b), 5, and 7 have pillars.
* Areas 2 b), 4 b), and 6 are on a dais/raised platform. The entrance section of area 7 has a dais/raised platform
* Area 6 has an altar and a statue.
* Area 8 has a magical circle. Perhaps this chamber is used for communicating with a being from the outer planes (such as an arch-devil, demon lord/prince, god, etc.).
* Area 13 has an open shaft in the cave ceiling that connects to the open pit on the upper levels.
* Areas 14, 15, 16, 18 b), 19, and 20 are part of an icy underground river. The white shapes within the water represent ice floes. The pale blue shapes are also ice floes but in their case, the ice is thin (with a risk of falling into the freezing water).
* Area 18 a) is the lair for the adult white dragon, Vlenserkontradix (also called Dragonclaw).
* Area 23 is a long tunnel that eventually leads to the surface several miles away from the Eye.
