D&D 5E Increasing my map-fu for Out of the Abyss

I use this to overlay grids on all my maps. http://sporkforge.com/imaging/grid.php

D&D 5E DMing "Out of the Abyss"

Seconded. I rarely roll for those. I typically have a 2-3 that I want the party to do. I treat them much like backgrounds or any other table. I chose what best fits the scenario and what's coolest for the moment.

Sword Coast Legends is not D&D

Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds both get you playing actual D&D with other people. As to the notion of turn-based video games...that's why I loved the old Pool of Radiance game for 3E. Especially POR: Ruins of Myth Drannor. I like having friendly fire off, as well as turn-based so I can actually...

D&D 5E DMing "Out of the Abyss"

Agreed 100%. Cutting a swath through hoards of fodder like a hot knife through butter and not even breaking a sweat can be fun. It can also lend to the overall feeling of an encounter. What I mean by that is, if you had the past 5 random encounters be suuuuuuper easy, then suddenly you're in a...

D&D 5E DMing "Out of the Abyss"

I would say that they do, just like ADV/DIS cancel each other out for a straight 1d20 roll. Edit: Ninja'd by Elfcrusher!

D&D 5E DMing "Out of the Abyss"

Vulnerable means you take double damage from that type, just as Resistance means you take half damage. Damage Resistance & Vulnerability Some creatures and objects are exceedingly difficult or unusually easy to hurt with certain types of damage. If a creature or an object has resistance to a...

D&D 5E DMing "Out of the Abyss"

That's what I'm gathering as well. I was planning on going with the Milestone method on this, but it seems that with no guidelines on when best to do it, awarding XP is the way to go in this adventure.

D&D 5E DMG's definition of "Deadly" is much less deadly than mine: Data Aggregation?

Late to the convo, and haven't read the entire thread, but in my experience with 5E, a "Deadly" encounter usually isn't if it's the first one of the day, or after a long-rest. Put that encounter at the end of the day, when the party resources are taxed and waning, and it's a whole other experience.

D&D 5E DMing "Out of the Abyss"

Is there a good guideline about PC level-up?

D&D 5E DMing "Out of the Abyss"

[De-Rail] A WWE wrestler fighter sub-class...now THAT piques my curiosity! I'm envisioning it like Battle Master, where you have a certain amount of dice for moves like an RKO, Brogue Kick, F4, Tombstone, GTS, etc. LOL [/De-Rail]

D&D 5E DMing "Out of the Abyss"

I'm doing the exact same thing on R20. I'm not wasting time filling in a full character sheet for NPCs. I'm just giving them base stats, HP, and AC and some simple macros to use. I'm also going to print out some cards with the pertinent data, to paper clip on my side of the DM screen when I...

so who is coming over ?

Damnit, "Synjin" is taken by a user apparently not active in two years. Ah well, hopefully the avatar pic is enough to tie it in until people are used to it.

so who is coming over ?

I'm here. Synjin over at WOTC. Having the Admins looking to change my name over. Made Xanthais out of habit.
