D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

    Tree, Plant, Mushroom, Flower?

    Shadowdark Finally Played Shadowdark

I think the issue here, and its likely the last time I post in this thread. Player expectation is wrong for what the game provides. Player playstyle preference is not a match for what the game provides. Player experience was influenced by DM's who either were not good, or simply (factually) did...

Yes. All you are saying is you didn't know what you were getting, and you are not interested in the OSR. You are looking for 4e, Daggerheart, 5e, maybe Draw Steel.

Nothing wrong with that. When I sat down and finally looked at the 5e math I realized it's way to easy for what I find acceptable.

So the experienced, and 'professional' DMs all failed to actually run the game.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah, its not a world view I can subscribe to. Wife, Work, Gym, Shadowdark....uhh....done.

No it doesnt, and no we are not. Its a game about going into dungeons, yes, and getting the treasure. Combat is not a requirement of the system. Treasure, is a requirement of the system. Talents that are not 100% combat bonus? Fighter Combat Combat Not Combat (CON = HP) Combat Not Combat...

Yeah, so your just not looking for what Shadowdark is. Which is again, fine. It isn't combat focused.

    Shadowdark Finally Played Shadowdark

Yeah. Nothing is going to change (outside of house rules) the fact that a Level 1 in SD has LOW HP. Thief, 1d4, Wizard, 1d4. Thats just the system, if its not a match its not a match.

Battlezoo books: Over 1300 Backers, 200K. Righteous Vow 3: Near 400 Backers, and just over the $23K for the sewn bindings! Problem? I want both sets of 3 books.

Crawling Rounds, page 85 under Regroup? I think the rest of your commentary is valid for your experience and expectation, but really dont agree with much of it. There also appears to be an expectation of making checks quite often, when if its a task that the player should be able to complete...

    Our Physical Fitness

Back Wednesday was solid. I tried the weighted pull ups again but I am not there. Next week, back to pull ups by body weight. Thursday, no go. Terrible day. Today, upper stuff. 70, 80, 80 Incline was the highlight. I'm going to try and get work in while I am on holiday but we will see.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I've come to the conclusion that given 2 choices. 1. An ongoing disruption, even with enjoyable tasks but no set pattern or schedule, constantly changing. 2. A set of 4 or 5 activities, scheduled, stable, consistent, unchanging forever. I would pick 2 10 times out of 10. I have no desire to go...

    Shadowdark July homebrew challenge: Summer!

Essentially zero chance I finish this within July, I'm heading out again this weekend, but I'll keep plugging away at it. I've got another small project I'm working on, a 'teacher adventure' for a DM + 1.

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

If they both Didn't make a big splash in the wider TTRPG design space. OR Influence another game which did? Yes, hard to say said example was part of a trend at that point no?
