    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I think some folks are worried about spotlight hogs, more people are worried about folks being skipped over because they don't feel comfortable inserting themselves into the action.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

One of the better ideas from the subreddit has been the idea of 'spotlight buddies' so that when the players keep the spotlight there's a sort of automatic 'if I just went, I should hand the spotlight to my buddy' that can keep things moving. And the GM can also provide a subtle nudge to keep...

Critical Role to Run Grimdark Daggerheart Miniseries

This is all hilarious, as Matt is the writer for the Age of Umbra campaign frame. So, yes he made it all up. And then put in a book, with nice art and excellent presentation. I hope the campaign fulfills its grimdark promise and shows the range of the CR cast.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

One that I haven't seen as many folks twig to as expected – in 4e you are often asked to roll some multiple of your damage die for a weapon attack, and the higher your level, the more dice you roll. In DH, your proficiency with weapons bakes that in.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

I can see them playing D&D on stream again, since it's what they became known for. But I can't see them running a long-form campaign again in D&D, but when they have a purpose-built system that fits their style better and is their own product as well.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

It used to be that you subtracted your armor value from the damage you took in order to figure out your damage threshold (most of the time you're comparing damage to your thresholds do figure whether to mark 0, 1, 2, or 3 HP). Of course that meant math on every hit, which slowed the game down...

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

I'm hoping (and reasonably confident) that the GM Screen will become available separately, as that was the only bit of the deluxe set that appealed.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

In Daggerheart, HP is sort of like hearts in Legend of Zelda. Incoming damage is compared to thresholds to maybe mark 0-3 HP (0 HP marked if the damage is low enough) so each HP represents a big pool of potential damage. You never have a huge amount of them, and not marking your last HP from a...

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

Yeah, until we see the final rules we don't know for sure. But it seems like the GM can spend a Fear token to have a go with a monster. I'm not sure if that means the Fly goes 4 times with 1 Fear, or the GM can spend 4 Fear for four goes.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

Promos are starting to drop. Here's a look at some of the Adversaries: (from Exclusive: DnD rival Daggerheart features some nightmarish high-tier adversaries) Folks have pointed out that there's a lot of neat design tricks for these higher-level monsters, like the Demon of Hubris having...

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

Of course, only the lucky folks down under know for absolute sure, but DP has been fairly clear about Campaign Frameworks being included in the core rules. A Campaign Framework (from what we saw in the beta) is a very top-level setting sketch, some rules tweaks to support the intended mood of...

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

I'm hoping that everyone is waiting for the full release (May 20 for those of us who preordered, June-ish for retail), to start shoveling more coal into the hype train. I was following the project just because it had the chance to become 'the next big thing' and along the way fell in love, so...

    Daggerheart Release Date Revealed

I guess my question for them (which I know is probably unanswerable) is how much money do you have spend to learn a new game? Time, sure. But for the casual viewer, just being excited when the players shout "Critical!" instead of "Natural 20!" would seem to be enough. It's not like Matt is not...

    Daggerheart Release Date Revealed

With campaign frames being more "here is how to tweak the core rules to get this vibe for your game", I wouldn't be shocked if one of them was "how to do high fantasy fun", but with the game's emphasis on player collaboration, it is likely to be more "how to make a campaign world like Exandria"...

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

Awesome. I think I'm going to do the preorder at Demiplane and I've already got the physical core coming whenever release happens, so it's more about occasional reference and character building than needing a PDF (which I think Darrington includes with physical orders, not sure).

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

After watching (and enjoying) the Critmas special VOD, I went searching for other Daggerheart materials, and came across DodoBorne (an actual play podcast by fans using the beta rules, but they have great comedic chemistry) and am also still excited to get the final release. I don't think that...

Daggerheart to Release Spring 2025, Pre-Orders Available Now

Based on what I saw of the preorder video, that's correct, yeah.

Daggerheart to Release Spring 2025, Pre-Orders Available Now

If it was the math on the Armor rules that bugged them, it is now much simpler. Spend a point of Armor to reduce the actual Damage done (so from 2 HP damage to 1 HP, for example). I'm hoping that the final release is robust enough to see some play when it arrives.
