To me it seems like less a question of the Warlock being underpowered, and more an issue of there being a very limited slice of workable options amongst all of the interesting choices they supposedly get to make. You can make a strong, capable Warlock, but once you do it will look a lot like...

These are all fair points and completely valid. As I said at the start of my post my goals were to change some things about the way Warlocks feel and operate for my game, I'm not trying to argue that they're sub par or unplayable at all (probably my favorite class as a player). If you like...

I like that! Choose a spell from the patron list at each level that you can cast 1/long rest. The issue I have with just adding spells to the spell list is that, by and large, most of the spells that really *feel* like that patron just aren't mechanically strong enough to compete with core...

Ha, yes the changes definitely fall in the buff category, but I think that's warranted. So far the Warlock still isn't nearly as versatile or consistent a caster as the Sorcerer in our group, but at least she is able to do a few additional things that reflect her pact choice during a session. Thanks for the great feedback. I agree that the added invocations are the most questionable things on this list. I included it because I wanted to enable all three styles of combat. From a flavor perspective I really like enabling Warlocks to do so with their magic, kind in keeping with the 4e...

I had considered some kind of smite option, but it just didn't seem worthwhile given how few slots they have. But I like the addition of a range of damage types that you included. It still doesn't seem like an especially strong option, but at least offers more versatility.

So far in my game (level 7 currently) they've been great. The warlock isn't as tanky and can't put out the same burst damage as the fighter, but has a lot of fun and interesting affects that fit her character. Also it just seems like there's less focus on mechanical issues (can we take a short...

The Warlock is one of the most flavorful classes in 5e. On the surface it appears to offer many options for customizing a unique character. However once you take a closer look at its mechanics you realize that the class has a small list of optimal choices, and a lot of less than effective traps...
