Don’t be like that. The title AND my first post ask for experiences using the book. I can find useless comments hating on the revised book whenever I want.

That information will differ per campaign. Also, IMO it is metagaming to use the MM to optimize your character.

If you use adventure books and the like, it is far easier to find things alphabetically. The only ones that tripped me up so far have been the Slaadi and the "Warriors". At least they don't expect me to know what a Yugoloth is :P

Ah sorry, I read over a part of your post. I think I am getting a bit tired of seeing people say the same things without it sounding like they played with any of the stat blocks. A lot of “bought it, but I did not use it”

It’s actually the opposite. If you are used to the old way and never try to learn the new way, it seems stupid. If you use the book a session or two, you’ll already be used to it.

But what has been your experience using the book? All of that is the same people have been saying since day 1.

RAW they can’t be countered, and along with the other Counterspell nerf, it is less useful for sure. I personally don’t allow it, but I have heard of DM’s who do.

Have you tried playing with them het? It just sounds like you don’t like changes.

You should really try the new monsters, especially if you already have the books. The old ones are badly balanced, finicky and all over the place. A lot of people have cited better results with less effort fielding the revised designs.

ToV Monster Vault is great, but they commit the unforgivable sin of spreading stat blocks across multiple pages. Also, their legendary actions are still of the older kind, I much prefer the 2025 Legendary monster legendary actions.

I think WotC saw more value in making a lot of solid stat blocks with those different roles.

I find templates to be very overrated, and love being lazy. I change a creature type and call it a day.
