    Non-evocative Names

I ran a homebrew campaign last year and will be starting it back up again. I used English names for one region, Roman names in another region, Nordic in a third and used Xanathar’s Guide for non human name generators (primarily Dwarf) Worked fine in my home games and helped myself and players...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Shadowdark. I bought the PDF and hardback which has shipped. I read through a good amount of the PDF version which reignited my interest in running an RPG.

Castles and Crusades Classic Style Box Set

Haha. I have not had that one up yet and, in truth, was unaware of the multiple methods.

Castles and Crusades Classic Style Box Set

I recently discovered C&C and really enjoy the game mechanics. Really feels like a cleaned up and streamlined AD&D.

D&D General What are you running?

I am running two small games; 5th edition DnD Magitech styled and then an Castles and Crusades in the same campaign world as the DnD, but set @ 300 years prior. One player that is playing in both has fun when he gets to see in the CnC campaign items/events that will eventually lead to the...

D&D 5E Casual player responses to DMs planning to avoid WotC 5e/1DnD rules

Right before this OGL blew up, I managed to convince my group (casuals) to try Castles and Crusades for ease play as a justification. Had fun on our first session and our next session this weekend. Familiar enough to D&D and was not a jarring change.

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

No issues, haha. I like the Seige Engine. I do like the idea of adapting advantages and disadvantages as a Seige mechanic. There is a lot of flexibility in the system which is great. The first session flowed fairly well. Next, the players begin Keep on the Borderlands (with some...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

We used minis and we discovered as models were placed, the flanking bonus became apparent popular as we all looked at the combat maneuvers. They also quickly learned the value of ranged combat when they got pinned down and had to weather direct fire to get out of LOS. I do think I may have...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

We got our Session 0/1 in today. Three players and all created martial class type characters. Ran a quick session to help get us all get accustomed to the rules. A couple things that will require a bit more review on my part: - The PCs did not utilize ranged weapons and the combats appeared to...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

I posted up to guage intereste at a FLGS for a session 0 and basic encounters to demonstrate the rules; 3 players so far. Hopefully will get a couple more as I'd expect a couple may not be able/not want to establish a regular game.

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

And wow. This has been exactly what I've been looking for. And the DMG equivalent is the best DMG I've run across in any edition. The only disappointment is that I didn't discover it sooner. If you had a mindset like myself, "I like DnD 5th except for....." I encourage you to pick up the...

    OD&D Morale Question

I do not see that specific language in the RC book. Individual morale rolls added up to a lot overall, but went quick. I think ensuring emphasizing the morale number for ease of reference helps a lot. I've been watching Dungeoncraft and really enjoyed his concept of writing all notes into a...

What games are you playing during the holidays

Scheduled BECMI D&D for one day this week and then will play a 5th Edition session next weekend.

    OD&D Morale Question

I'll run some sample combats with my son. Some of the encounters involve a lot of creatures (and hirelings), and this could become a lot of dice rolls to run through. However, it does give a bit more granularity in an encounter. We will run through it and see how fast we can get through an...

    OD&D Morale Question

That all makes sense. I introduced my son to BECMI mechanics (he has only played 5th ed) and ran through a couple combats. We used morale as two distinct roles (Hobgoblin and Goblins). It actually made the combat quicker with Retreat is an option in the game. Thanks for the replies.

    OD&D Morale Question

How does one roll for morale in D&D Cyclopedia rules? Based on the below example, how would I roll for this? Beginning of a combat round, I need to roll for Morale as the first action with the following creatures: Hobgoblin 5 Goblins As the DM, would I roll Morale for each creature (one roll...
